Clara Kurpgeweit Obituary

CRESTON - Clara Kurpgeweit, 98, of Creston died Monday, July 2, 2007, at the Butler County Health Care Center in David City.

Service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 5 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Leigh with Rev. Dr. Marsha Jark-Swain officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. There will be a family prayer service on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. at the church.

Clara was born Aug. 8, 1908, in rural Platte County to Henry and Anna (Schluntz) Brock. Clara attended school in rural Platte County. On Sept. 23, 1930, Clara married Otto Kurpgeweit at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, rural Leigh. They lived on the farm in rural Platte County where Clara was a homemaker and helped on the farm. In 1974, Clara moved to Leigh and later moved in with her granddaughter. She enjoyed quilting, embroidery, and baking breads, pies, and rolls.

Clara is survived by her son. Dale (Sheryl) Kurpgeweit, Creston; daughter, Verna (Frank) Fischer, Stanton; daughter-in-law, Marilyn (Stanley) Settje of Creston; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; and 1 step great-great grandchild

She was preceded in death by husband; 3 grandchildren; brothers, William, Alfred, and Ernst Brock; sister, Sophie Schmidt; sister, Minnie Hausermann. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Condolences may be sent to www.gasshaney.com
