Dorothy P. Lavicky

March 16, 1936 - November 25, 2024

Dorothy P. (Kobza) Lavicky was born on March 16, 1936, in Brainard, Neb., the youngest of 12 children, to Emil and Elizabeth (Duhon) Kobza, and passed away on November 25, 2024, at her home in Dwight, Neb., at the age of 88 years, eight months and nine days.

Dorothy grew up in Brainard where she attended Holy Trinity for grade school and graduated from Brainard High School with the Class of 1954. She then attended Omaha College of Business for 18 months. Dorothy worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as a keypunch operator while in Omaha. On September 28, 1957, Dorothy was united in marriage to John Lavicky at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Brainard. The couple moved to Dwight in 1960. Dorothy worked at Butler County ASCS office for 42 years as a loan officer, retiring in 2008. She and John loved dancing and going to summer events in the neighboring communities. Dorothy enjoyed her flower gardens and spending time in her backyard. Her greatest joy was her four grandsons. She loved them with all her heart. She and John never missed any of their sporting events.

Dorothy was a longtime member of the Assumption Catholic Church where she was active in the Altar Society. She was a 54-year member of the Dwight American Legion Post-110 Auxiliary and served on the Butler County Election Board for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 11 siblings and their spouses, Rose and Tony Radanovich, Alice and Sam Lipton, Emil and Maxie Kobza, Margaret and Lloyd McGough, Agnes and John Hottovy, Marie and Bill Collopy, Betty and John Bloom, Gabriella and Bill Rezny, Helen and Richard Duffek, Bernard and Patricia Kobza, Benedict and Dolores Kobza; sister-in-law and husband, Mary Lou and Charles Novacek.

Survivors cherishing Dorothy's memory include her husband, John Lavicky, Dwight; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce and Tami Lavicky, Papillion; four grandsons, Spencer, Easton, Dane and Trent Lavicky; sister-in-law and husband, Jean and Lee Coufal; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. To this obituary we add our thoughts, prayers and memories of a life shared with Dorothy.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 1 to 4 p.m., at Zabka-Perdue Funeral Home, Dwight, visitation will resume with the family receiving friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m., at Assumption Catholic Church, Dwight, followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, December 6, 2024, at Assumption Catholic Church, with Father Raymond Jansen celebrating the Mass. Graveside and Inurnment will follow at 3:30 p.m., at Omaha National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Dwight American Legion Auxiliary #110, Dwight American Legion - Sons of American Legion #110.

I have so many memories of Dorothy. Once when I was at Yonkers looking for Jewelery for a gala I was going to for our school. She was there shopping also. She helped me find jewelry fit for a queen. I loved it and always remembered it. My heart and sympathy go out to you all.
