Mass of Christian Burial for Janet Eurek, age 77, of Howells, Neb., will be on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., at St. John's Nepomucene Catholic Church in Howells, Neb., with interment in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the Howells Community Catholic Social Hall. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 5 to 7 p.m., at St. John's Catholic Church with a Vigil Service and Rosary at 7 p.m., and will continue one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Minnick Funeral Chapel in Dodge is assisting the family with the arrangements. The family suggests that memorials be directed to Howells Fire and Rescue or to the family for future designation in Janet's name.
Janet Eurek unfortunately lost her three-year battle with cancer at age 77 on March 7, 2025. Janet Kay (Gall) Eurek was born on January 11, 1948 in West Point, Neb., to her parents, Fred and Tillie (Coufal) Gall. Her parents, Janet, and her four siblings, Ed, Elaine, Larry, and Phyllis, lived on the family farm just a few miles outside of Howells, Neb., all her childhood.
Janet graduated in 1966 from Howells Public High School. She married Dave Eurek in August of 1967. They had two sons, Dale and Patrick. Janet and Dave also had foster children for many years. When her sons were older, Janet began working at the Howells and Schuyler Post offices. Janet worked for 25 years in the postal system and then retired in January of 2004 from the Norfolk Post Office.
Janet loved spending time with Dave, her husband of 57 years, and her children and grandchildren. She liked to go to the casinos, play cards, watch sporting events, bake, read, bowling, and enjoy a cold beer or glass of champagne.
Janet was best known for always remembering peoples' birthdays. She was notorious for sending cards in the mail with thoughtful words and maybe even a little cash. She was a great baker and never missed her grandchildren's activities. Janet was an active member of St. Peter and Paul's Catholic Church and the Howells Public Library.
Janet was proceeded in death by her parents, Fred and Tillie; her grandson, Samson Eurek; her brother, Ed Gall and sister, Elaine Kluthe. Janet is survived by her husband, Dave Eurek, they were married 57 years; brother, Larry Gall; sister, Phyllis (Rich) Berglund; her son, Dale (Tonya); son, Patrick; four grandchildren, Dillon (Maddie), Connor (Alex), Daila and Jameson Eurek; four great-grandchildren, Hunter, Brooks, Cam and Crew Eurek.
