Joan Bredehoft, 84, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2023, at her home in Columbus.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Cory Burma officiating. Interment will be in Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until service time, all at the church. Memorials may be directed to Peace Lutheran Church or the donor's choice.
Joan M. Bredehoft, was born Oct. 7, 1938, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Joseph and Idabelle (Albrecht) Beebe. She attended elementary school in Minden and Walnut, Iowa, graduating from Walnut High School in 1957. On June 12, 1957, Joan was united in marriage to Carroll Bredehoft in Minden, Iowa.
Joan did clerical work all her life. She began her career working for the civil service with the Marine Corp in Arlington, Virginia, from September 1957 to March 1959, while Carroll was in the United States Army. Upon the couple's return to Nebraska, Joan went to work at Behlen Manufacturing from August 1959 to May 1983. In October of that same year, Joan began working for Mid-East Nebraska Mental Health Clinic, retiring in December 1997. Later that month she started working for First National Bank in Columbus, retiring in December 2003. Joan was a volunteer at the Columbus Community Hospital for 30 years, ending in 2016. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.
Joan is survived by: siblings, David, Kathleen, and Orlene.
Joan was preceded in death by: father, Joseph Beebe; mother, Idabelle Beebe; step-father, Orville Dobernecker; ex-husband, Carroll Bredehoft; ex-parents-in-law, Walter and Amanda Bredehoft; and ex-brother-in-law, Eugene Bredehoft.
