FEDERAL WAY - Margaret Ann Osten, formally of Creston, died Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Life Care Center of Federal Way, Federal Way, Washington. Memorial services are being planned for a later date.
Margaret was born on March 26, 1943, to Forrest and Ada (Rannefeld) Granier in New Orleans, LA. She spent the first 7 years of her life in Morgan City, LA and then moved to Brownsville, Texas until 1954. The family then returned to Morgan City, LA where Margaret graduated from Patterson High School in 1961. After high school, Margaret attended Concordia College in Seward, NE. In the spring of 1962, Margaret met Larry Osten after he returned from serving in the U.S. Army and they were married on August 18, 1963, and made their residence in Creston. They lived in the Creston area for 55 years and raised two children. After Larry's death in 2018, Margaret moved to the Seattle area to live with her daughter.
Margaret was a founding member of the Creston Rescue Unit and served as an EMT for 24 years. Margaret worked as a secretary starting in 1963 at the Creston Co-op. In 1972, she joined the Newell Westcott Tax and Insurance Services. She also worked for Weerts-Boetcher Insurance Agency and Creston Fertilizer until 1984, at which time she opened her own insurance agency, Hometown Agency. In 1986, Margaret began working for Rambour Realty and continued there until she retired in 2010.
Margaret enjoyed camping, reading, crocheting, and other hand work. Even after losing her eyesight in her later years, Margaret always made the best of every situation and found humor and joy in life. She never let the blindness stop her.
Margaret is survived by: Son - Samuel Osten (Kathyrn Wolf Osten) of Wexford, PA Granddaughter - Natalie Osten Grear (Gary) of Las Vegas, NV Grandson - Jeremy Osten (Leyla Kolbai) of St Paul, MN Grandson - Matthew Osten (Brooke Ferringer) of Glen Allen, VA Daughter - Vicki Osten of Federal Way, WA Sister - Mildred Gryder of Florence, AL Sister-in-law - Shirley Granier of Pearl River, LA Many nieces and nephews.
She is proceeded into death by: Husband - Larry Osten Parents - Forrest and Ada Granier In-laws - Art and Alma Osten Brothers - Wallace Granier, Harold Granier, Otto Granier, Robert Granier, Henry Granier Sister - LelaMae Domangue Sister-in-laws - Twila Larson, Adele Granier, Alice Granier, Maralou Granier Brother-in-laws - Harold Larson, Jay Domangue

VonDell and I still talk about Sliver and Margaret . They always looked on the bright side with a big smile. I am sure that Margaret may not have appreciated the trophy the team gave Sliver but she did tolerate it. Prayers for the family at this time. They are in our hearts forever
