COLUMBUS - Patsy Jean (Kohl) Breuer, 73, of Columbus, died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, at Columbus Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at Stewart Baxter Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Iowa, with the Rev. Karen Nelson officiating. Interment will be in the Lisbon City Cemetery in Lisbon, Iowa. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus and 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Stewart Baxter Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. Visitation will continue from 9-10 a.m. Thursday at Stewart Baxter Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the Columbus Cancer Care Foundation or Columbus Community Hospital Foundation.
Patsy Jean Breuer was born Oct. 28, 1943, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph "Dick" La Verne and Louise Evelyn (Morningstar) Kohl. She attended Coon Creek School and graduated from Lisbon High School in Lisbon, Iowa. Patsy furthered her education at Iowa City Commercial College in Iowa City, Iowa.
On June 26, 1964, Patsy and Richard "Dick" Breuer were united in marriage at Wesley House, United Methodist Church in Iowa City. The following January, they moved to Appleton, Wisconsin, where they resided for eight years and where their children were born. In 1973, the family moved to Columbus. Patsy worked for Columbus Public Schools for over 25 years where she monitored a computer lab among other duties. She also enjoyed selling tickets at various athletic and other school events and meeting people.
Over the years while her sons were growing up, Patsy was involved in various church and school activities, including PTA, room mother, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and held a number of leadership positions. Patsy was one of the chairpersons in charge of the Higgins Memorial at Pawnee Park in Columbus along with the subsequent additions and maintenance. This memorial honors Columbus native Andrew Jackson Higgins and all veterans who have served. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, refinishing antique furniture, researching family history and traveling to visit family.
Patsy is survived by her husband, Richard "Dick" Breuer of Columbus; sons, Douglas Breuer of Woburn, Massachusetts, Gregory Breuer of Port Byron, Illinois, and Eric (Cathy) Breuer of Marquette; grandson, Mitch Breuer of Marquette; brother, Steve (Judy Parker) Kohl of Lisbon, Iowa; brothers-in-law, Fred Breuer of Bloomington, Illinois, Jim (Ruth) Breuer of Bloomington, Illinois, Max (Carol) Breuer of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Tom (Carol) Breuer of Winchester, Massachusetts; sister-in-law, Marie Breuer of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and many nieces and nephews.
Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph "Dick" and Louise Kohl; stillborn daughter, Karla Breuer; sisters-in-law, Laura and Janet Breuer; brother-in-law, Andrew Breuer; and nephew, David Breuer.
