STROMSBURG - Paul W. Everingham, 83, of Stromsburg, formerly of Wakefield, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at the Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at the Stromsburg Evangelical Covenant Church with the Rev. Bob Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion Post in Stromsburg.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today at the Palmer Funeral Home in Stromsburg.
Mr. Everingham was born May 12, 1920, to Albert A. and Mabel Mae (Williams) Everingham at Ainsworth. He graduated from Newport High School in 1939. He worked on a ranch in the Newport area for a short time until enlisting in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving from September 1940 to October 1946.
He married Norma Jean Harrison on Oct. 23, 1943.
He worked for Safeway in Lincoln and transferred to Norfolk. He then went to work for a grocery store in Wakefield. He started farming in the Wakefield area in 1952, residing there until 1988 when they retired to Stromsburg.
He was a member of the church. He worked numerous hours a the Covenant Cedars Bible Camp near Hordville. He served on the Soil Conservation Board in Wayne County. He helped start the Northeast Nebraska Pork Producers Board and served as a state director. He was a 4-H leader, served on the District 1 School Board in Wayne County and was a chairman of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Wakefield.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Karen (Phil) Finch of Waterloo; a son, Ken (Pat) Everingham of Stromsburg; three sisters, Helen Swanson of Bassett, Rachel Greenfield and Stella Black, both of Omaha; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Melvin Everingham and Donald Everingham; and one sister, Eunice Boerger.
