Samuel Arthur Case was born January 7, 1935, at home in St. Edward, Nebraska, to Verne D. and Christine (Parker) Case. He was baptized at St. John's Episcopal Church in Albion, Nebraska, and attended St. Edward Public Schools, graduating in 1954. In 1956 Sam was united in marriage to Jane Ellen Westmore and to this union three daughters were born – Christine, Barbara, and Robin.
"Uncle Sam" called Sam to join the United States Army in 1957. He played football for his unit – the Blue Spaders – and was in the honor guard dedicating the bridge over the Republican River at Fort Riley, Kansas. After his honorable discharge, Sam began a 50-year career with Behlen Manufacturing. In 1984 he started traveling overseas as a technical supervisor and worked in 14 different countries, erecting 32-meter grain tanks.
Sam was a family man and enjoyed spending time with his girls and grandchildren. One year, he and Barb walked in the Cornhusker State Games where he earned a medal. On another occasion, Sams other daughter Robin and her son Kirby, and grandson Brecken, walked along with them, making it a four generation walk.
After he retired at the age of 71, and after his wife Jane retired, they moved from St. Edward to Columbus where they lived until, because of failing health, they and their cat Gigi, moved to Elkhorn Independent Living in Elkhorn, Nebraska, to be closer to family. His health continued to decline, and he entered Legato Legacy in Omaha in 2025.
Sam was an avid sports fan, and he loved to watch his grandsons Shane and Kirby play soccer and football and granddaughter Chelsea play volleyball. His daughter Robin, being a Creighton fan and Sam being a Husker fan, had so much fun going back and forth about their teams. Sam loved those Husker football and volleyball games. He enjoyed playing with the guys in the St. Edward Town Basketball Team while living in St. Ed.
One special memory was a trip to Hawaii. Robin and her husband Terry took their family, as well as her mom and dad, to Hawaii for their 50th wedding anniversary. They were able to show her dad the World War II memorial on this trip.
Sam and Jane spent many wonderful summer visits with brother-in-law and sister-in-law Charlie and Darla at Lake McConaughy. Sam loved listening to the old timer's western music and would tease his daughters about it when they would have to listen to it with him. He also enjoyed watching his "Westerns" on T.V.
Sam is survived by his wife, Jane Case of Elkhorn, Neb.; daughter, Barb Case of Lincoln, Neb.; daughter, Robin Reardon of Omaha, Neb.; granddaughter, Chelsea Czapla; and great-grandson, Brecken of Omaha, Neb.; grandson, Shane (Satarah) Reardon and great-grandchildren, WillaVee and Robby of Bennington, Neb.; grandson, Kirby (Dana) Reardon and great-grandson Kit of Lincoln, Neb.; Kitty, Gigi; brother, Michael "Mick" (Phyllis) Case of El Mirage, Ariz.; brother-in-law, Charlie (Darla) Westmore of Ogallala, Neb.; and many nieces and nephews.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Verne and Christine Case; daughter, Christine Case; son-in-law, Terry Reardon; brothers, infant Freddie, Robert, Verne Jr., James, Don, Charlie, and Jerry Case; and sisters, Elizabeth Vladamar, Eleanor Johnson, Ann Emigh, Nadine Ennis, Jane Schoening, Norma Case, and Jean Gates.
