Shirley Nye
September 29, 1937 - November 7, 2025
Shirley Nye, 88, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025, in Loveland, Colorado. Born on September 29, 1937, in Norfolk, Nebraska, she lived a full and vibrant life marked by dedication to her work, deep love for her family, and an enduring passion for animals and adventure.
Shirley graduated from high school in Norfolk, Nebraska, where she began laying the foundation for a life defined by hard work and compassion. Shortly after graduation, she started her professional journey as a teletype operator for the Norfolk Daily News. Her career path later led her to Columbus, Nebraska, where she served as a legal secretary at the Law Office of Warren, Albert, Leininger, and Grant. Shirley spent over a decade there and held deep affection for both her colleagues and the clients she served.
After relocating to Colorado with her husband, Dale Nye, Shirley played an instrumental role in opening the Dale Electronics office in Loveland. She worked in inside sales before continuing her career in the electronics industry with Elcom Electronics and MiniScribe Technology/Maxtor. At MiniScribe, she advanced to become Corporate Cash Manager-a position that reflected her sharp mind, integrity, and unwavering commitment-before retiring.
Shirley had a zest for life that was evident in everything she did. A devoted fan of Colorado Buffaloes football and basketball, she rarely missed a game. She loved playing golf and could often be found with a book in hand-an avid reader with an insatiable curiosity. Her love for animals was unmatched; throughout her life, she welcomed countless dogs into her home with open arms.
Her adventurous spirit extended to the open road-she had a special fondness for fast cars. From the family's blue 1966 Impala Super Sport bought brand new to not one, but two white Z-28 Camaros, Shirley's love of driving fast was legendary among those who knew her best, She even raced stock cars in her younger days at the local racetrack Norfolk in powder puff races.
Shirley's memory will live on through the many lives she touched-with kindness that never wavered and a spirit that never slowed down. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.
Shirley's personal life was just as rich as her professional one. She shared many years of marriage with her beloved husband, Dale Nye. Together, they raised two sons: Steve Nye (Lynne) and Tim Nye (Peter). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Matthew Nye (Rachel) and Kristy Onabajo (Dennis), and her great-grandchildren, Zane Nye, Tyler Nye, Ava Onabajo, and Mila Onabajo. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who were deeply touched by her warmth and generosity.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Reuben and Gladys Schulz; sister, Marcine Schulz; father-in-law, Earl Nye; mother-in-law, Mary Nye; brother-in-law, Tom Nye; sister-in-law, Velva Frank; and nephew, Brad Pitzer.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
