Curtis Mayfield Obituary
Memphis, TN
Curtis Wayne Mayfield, Sr., the son of Vanderbilt Mayfield, Elma Lucille Mayfield and step-mother, Lula Mae Mayfield was born on September 28th, 1948, in New Albany, Mississippi. Curtis concluded his life on May 9th, 2016.
He graduated from Brooker T. Washington High School in 1968 where he was titled the top twenty-two All American Athletes in the Mid-South in 1967. Curtis went on to play football and graduated from the University of Minnesota, Gophers and pledged Kappa Alpha Psi. He briefly played professional football for the Washington Red Skins. Later in life, Curtis became a member of the Masonic Brotherhood.
Curtis leaves six children, three sisters, two brothers and many cherished loved ones and life long friends.
Visitation: Friday, May 20, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Funeral: Saturday, May 21 at Noon all at N.J. Ford and Sons Funeral Home, 12 South Parkway West, 901-948-7755. Burial in Forest Hill Cemetery Midtown. 1661 Elvis Presley Blvd. 901-775-0310

Family, may the Lord give you strength and blessings during this difficult time. Curtis was a teammate at the Univ of Minnesota, and an arch rival during high school (BTW vs Melrose). Curtis was well liked and respected. May he rest in Peace.

Dear Family,
Curtis'Country Slim' Mayfield was my room mate and friend at the University of Minnesota. He and I were also team mates at Booker T. Washington H. S. We spent many hours laughing and enjoying our lives. I will miss his outrageous laughter most.
I share in your sorrow for this heavy loss...may he rest in peace! He will be missed! Blessings on the family!
