Nancy Cunningham Obituary

NANCY CLARK CUNNINGHAM, long time Memphis resident, died Monday, September 22, 2008 at Methodist LeBonheur Germantown Hospital after a short illness. Her cousins were at her bedside. Nancy was born April 3, 1924 to Presley and Eula Bearce Clark in Meridian, MS. Nancy graduated from Meridian High School and maintained friendships from that time through out her life. She married R.C. (Jiggs) Cunningham and lived a full life with him in Memphis. Jiggs preceded her in death by ten years. Nancy was a long time sales associate at Goldsmith's and then Stein Mart. She was very involved with the Shelby County Republican Party and the Shelby County Republican Women. A frequent delegate to Conventions and a stanch advocate for voter registration, she greatly enjoyed the fellowship and camaraderie of those gatherings and events. She was active in Christ United Methodist Church. Nancy was a resident at Kirby Pines and lived an active life there. She was blessed by many friends who truly treated her and embraced her as family. We will never know all you did, but we are forever appreciative. Her cousins are particularly grateful to Peggy Bell, who supported Nancy in many ways and to Sugar Walker for finding a loving home for Dusty, Nancy's beloved dog. Nancy is survived by cousins Joellyn Forrester Sullivan of Memphis, Bill Forrester and Beth Graham Doty of Oxford, MS; Courtney Graham Pyron and Allison Graham Beech of Crystal Springs, MS; Collier Graham and Jesse Graham of Jackson, MS. A visitation will be held on Wednesday September 24 from 9-10 a.m. with a funeral service following at 10 a.m. all at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Entombment will follow in Memorial Park Mausoleum. A celebration of Nancy's life will be held at Kirby Pines Chapel following the service at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial to Kirby Pines Foundation. My mother, Marcy Hale, was long time friend of Nancy. I also worked at Kirby Pines a few years back and had several lovely conversations with Nancy. What a sweet lady and she was genuinely interested in you. I could hardly believe she was still working at that time. She enjoyed her life at Kirby Pines and was active much longer than my mom has been able. My mom is in Fairfield Bay AR and has not heard of this yet.

Please know that you are in my prayers and bless you for taking care of Nancy's final wishes.

Thinking of and praying for your family. I have fond memories of "Nancy and Jiggs" from my childhood in Memphis. They were so precious to my grandparents, Hayes and Dorothy Gowen.
Love, Mary Gowen Simmons
