Susan Harper Grissom left us far too soon on Tuesday, November 7, 2017. Susan was born January 18th, 1961 in Jackson, TN; but spent her life as a Memphian having graduated from Briarcrest High School and is an alumnus of Ole Miss where she studied finance and was a member of Phi Mu sorority.
Her passions included her faith in God, her family, travel, dining, Grizzlies basketball and enjoying live music. Susan believed in Memphis and loved living in the downtown community. She was a member of Downtown Church and spent the past 25 years of her career with Johnson & Johnson as a sales representative working with optometrists. She was a beautiful individual inside and out who was very generous with her time and resources to help others less fortunate. As a mother, daughter, sister; or a friend, she will missed by all those that were fortunate enough to have had her in their lives.
Susan leaves behind her husband, Scott Grissom; daughter Devin Roper; son-in-law Jameson Roper, both of Nashville; mother Betty Harper of Germantown; brother Jeff Harper, Austin, TX; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 12th from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave, with a service to be held on Monday, November 13th at 10:00 AM at Second Presbyterian Church, 4055 Poplar Ave.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Downtown Church or Union Mission.

Susan, my Phi Mu sister at Ole Miss really stood out in a crowd. She was a radiant beauty inside and out and not someone you could easily forget...always had a way of making everyone else feel like the special one ! Her gifts became our blessings ! I met Mrs. Grissom during the filming of "Sweet Home Alabama" back in 2011. She was so kind hearted with all of the chaos that goes along with a show like this, and yet her smile and energy lit up the whole set. I remember thinking how awesome of a person Devin was and then how amazing of a family that she had behind her. Dev and Mr. Grissom, my heart goes out to y'all. May God rest her soul.

My heart goes out to all who loved Susan. She was the most kind & genuine person I ever met. I came to know her thru Johnson & Johnson. I was one of her many accounts, but always felt as though I was her "only account". Every month we chatted about our weekend plans or what our kids were up to. She genuinely cared for everyone who ever crossed her path & even those she had never met. She was so compassionate and had a servant's heart. I want to thank you all for sharing her with me for the last 10 years. I am forever changed by the amazing woman she was. I cannot pray hard enough for the family of this beautiful person. I knew Susan for years when I lived in Memphis working in the optical field. She was truly a wonderful person. I met Susan one time during a clinical training class with Dr. Donna Sherrill. We were taught about all the creepy bugs that live along our lash lines! Susan was clearly one of a kind, she never met a person that didn't become her friend and her perma-smile left a huge mark on this world. Susan graced us and our office every time we saw her. She was always in a great mood and smiling. In 10 years I never heard her say a bad word about anyone. The perfect mix of a sweet, genuine, caring person and complete professional. She knew her business well, and people too. I can't believe we will never see her waltz in again, ready to tackle any physical task, and always in her cute heels. I don't think anyone out-worked her, she was smart and beautiful inside and out. I was lucky enough to know Susan for over a decade through my work as an optometrist. She was the only rep who I could count on on a regular basis. She was consistently present for life - she always seemed so joyful and grateful for every minute. I never saw her in a bad mood. Scott and Devin, I am so sorry to hear about Susan. I had the pleasure of working with her when I lived in Memphis and worked at The Optometry Group with Herman Tacker and Gary Nance. I was always impressed with Susan professionally but also as a Mom, Wife and friend. She always bragged on you two and made me want to be a great husband and father when I had the chance years later.
Over the years, since I left Memphis for Denver in 1998 and then to Charlotte, NC in 2006 her name continues to come up. Everyone that I have ever met from Vistakon has been so impressed with Susan as a co-worker and mostly as an incredible person. Just two weeks ago in Dallas I met two more people that had great things to tell me about her.
I do not have to tell you how much she will be missed. I am so so sorry for your loss and our family will be praying for yours in the days to come.
