Sanbornton, NH - Barbara Bonney Akerman, 83, of Gulf Road, died on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loved ones.

Barbara was born on June 28, 1940, in Bridgeport, CT, the daughter of Linwood K. Bonney and Ruth Chesley Bonney. She was a graduate of Stratford, CT, High School and Bates College.

Barbara taught at Laconia High School and Memorial Middle School for 6 years. She also was an abstractor for Haughey, Philpot and Laurent, working for the law firm for 25 years. Barbara enjoyed volunteering at Belmont Elementary School and she helped with the school reading program.

Barbara was a trustee of the New Hampshire Conference of the United Church of Christ, a board member of the Geneva Point Center, a trustee of the Sanbornton Public Library, and a member of the Zoning Board of Adjustment.

She was a member of the Sanbornton Congregational Church for over 50 years, serving as a Deacon and Christian Education teacher and on countless other committees.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 61 years, Dennis H. Akerman; daughter, Elisabeth Akerman; son, Michael S. Akerman and his wife Colleen; sister, Priscilla Bonney-Smith; grandchildren, Justin M. Akerman-Raposo, Patrick T. Akerman, and Casey M. Akerman; great-grandson, Brandon M. Raposo; and one niece and two nephews.

Barbara was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be remembered most for her love of family, her special canine companions over the years, all things nature including her gardens, the birds and the chickens, as well as her favorite hobbies of reading and jigsaw puzzles. She will be missed by many.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at the Sanbornton Congregational Church, UCC, 21 Meetinghouse Hill Road, Sanbornton 03269.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Sanbornton Congregational Church.
