Charlotte Buxton Obituary

BOW – Charlotte R. Buxton, of Bow, passed away Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was 74.

Charlotte was born in Newport, to Ralph and Priscilla Hamel on Dec. 19, 1940. She grew up in Sunapee with her three sisters, Ruth, Shirley and Norma and brother, David.

She is predeceased by her husband, Bruce E. Buxton, who passed away in 2007.

She leaves behind her son, Scott Buxton and his wife, Kara and two very special grandchildren, Kayla and Gavin all of Canterbury. She also leaves behind other family members as well as many dear friends.

Charlotte worked at the Bow Baker Free Library for over 20 years and was active in the Bow Community and the Bow Mills United Methodist Church. If you did not know her from the library then you probably passed her in the early morning hours on the roads of Bow where she faithfully speed walked every morning. She was a great cook/baker, had a love for reading and enjoyed her garden. She loved animals and leaves behind her cat, Georgia Mae Peach. Charlotte was very involved in the community and enjoyed many groups, such as the Happy Hookers, the Bow Garden Club, and the United Methodist Church. She was devoted to caring for others in the community, helping with meals, calls, driving, visits and more.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m. at the Bow Mills United Methodist Church, 505 South St., Bow.

In lieu of flowers, please offer donations to the CRVNA Hospice House, 240 Pleasant St., Concord NH, 03301.

I met Charlotte at the library when I first moved to Bow 14 years ago. She felt like an old friend the first time I met her. She was so warm and welcoming and kind. She has been a patient of ours and I had the pleasure of seeing her often. I really will miss her. God bless Charlotte and her family.

I met Charlotte years ago when we both lived at the same place in Manchester. We have kept in touch all these years...we both lost our husbands to the same kind of cancer. I always called her "Charly"...had a wonderful visit with her just a week before her passing. She was a wonderful, caring person and I am so happy that she was part of my life..so many wonderful memories. My sincere sympathy to you in your loss...she will be truly missed...she is at peace now.

Charlotte was a great neighbor when we lived in Bow, a ready smile at the library, and one powerful dog/speed walker! I was so impressed. I remember her patiently weeding her ground phlox. Overlaying all of this was her smile, and kind, generous heart.
We are all less for her passing.

We are so thankful to have known Charlotte for close to 53 years. She was kind, loving and always smiling, no matter what. She will be missed by our town and the many people that have known her either through her church, the library, the Happy Hookers, the Bow Garden Club or just seeing her out walking her dog or, later, her borrowed dog. Our prayers go out to Scott and his family. We are thankful she is now with Bruce.
