To David and his family,
You were a friend and an inspiration. I loved your humor and I loved your musicianship. Both came to you so naturally. I was shocked to see that Carol had died before you. I loved her as well. May God bless you Dave and your beautiful family. Rest in peace, ol' friend.

Dave Dodge has always been a special friend--We played lots of great music together in "The Worlds Finest"---The concert band, and original trumpet section of the Commodores---We also played alot of golf together out at Andrews---He always beat me--So did the rest of the guys we played with---I always loved the way he played trumpet--Take no prisoners--My thoughts and prayers are with his family

Dear Dodge family. I just learned of Dave's passing today through the Navy Band Alumni Association and was shocked to hear this sad news. Dave and I spent many years with the Navy Band and on many combo jobs outside of the band. One of my favorite memories was of the steady gig we played for years every Friday and Saturday night at a place called "Uncle Tom's," a small neighborhood bar in Maryland, where we played with a quartet: Ron Chiles, Guy Leslie, and me along with Dave. Dave was one of the most creative trumpet players and soloists I ever heard anywhere and it was such a pleasure to hear him. I send special greetings to Thom and Davia (I name I always loved!) as I knew them as small children. I didn't get to know the family after David move to New England, but know how much he loved his family. David had such an amazing spirit, very competitive but warm. Everyone liked Dave and frankly, he was one of those guys you thought would always be the same the next time you saw him. The last time we were together was in New Hampshire when the band was on tour. We had a great visit and shared many of the memories I just mentioned. Please know that Dave will be remembered fondly by many around the globe, not only for his amazing talent and love for life, but for being a loyal friend. Wishing you all warm memories and smiles as this difficult time passes.
Warmest regards,
Marty Erickson

Dave was a great guy. We had a lot of laughs and a few 'brews' together; and played a few rounds of golf while we were in the Navy Band together. A very fine trumpet player and a special friend. He will be missed by his MANY friends. May God Bless you Dave, and let Perpetual Light Shine Upon You my friend. Rest in peace.

Dad, It didn't matter whether we met often or not, or how often we saw each other. What mattered is that your presence in my life helped me live as a better man. It didn't matter whether we spoke every day or not, what mattered was that I knew you were always there if I needed you, and that meant everything to me. Your death will live in my mind as a blurry moment in time, but your life will always shine through as clear and as beautifully to me as the notes you played on your trumpet. Love, Your Son
