Northfield, NH - Former State Representative, The Honorable Deborah Wheeler passed away peacefully on May 28th at the Hospice House in Concord with her loving husband of 13 years by her side. Born on May 17, 1945 in Northfield VT, Deborah was the youngest of 10 and the last remaining member of her immediate family. Deb's family relocated to Franklin NH, where she graduated High School and later moved to Northfield NH where she resided for over 36 years. Deb served as a State Employee for over 36 years, first working for the Adjutant General and then Agriculture. Deb retired in 2002 with over 32 years of service with the NH Department of Revenue Administration. She cared for many elderly and disabled people in the community as well as family members, including her late husband of 32 years, James Wheeler.

Deb was a proud member of SEA/SEIU local 1984 and held many leadership roles. Deb had been an active member of the District 6 community for many years. While residing in Northfield, she had served as Ballot Clerk and a Supervisor of the Checklist.

Deb served three successful terms in the House of Representatives from 2006-2012. She served on many committees. Municipal and County Government, and Legislative Administration, to say the least. She sponsored and co-sponsored many bills that passed into law. She appeared before commerce, labor, environment and resource committees. She worked very hard for her constituents and was concerned with issues that affect quality community services for the elderly, ill and disabled. She was an advocate for tax relief for seniors and disabled citizens as well as fair and equitable health care for all.

Deb leaves behind her husband Robert Gillespie, two nieces and many friends. Visiting hours will be from 4-6PM on July 3, 2025 at the Smart Memorial Home in Tilton. For more information, please visit www.smartmemorialhome.com
