Donald McLane Obituary

Donald Walker McLane

Twisp, WA - Born on November 22, 1950 to Susan Neidlinger McLane and Malcolm McLane, Donald grew up in Concord with his four siblings - Robin, Debbie, Alan, and Annie. He married twice, first to Joni Messer (of Concord) and later to Lois Garland (of Bartlett, NH). He is preceded in death by his parents and his second wife, Lois. He is survived by Joni, his three children (Erik McLane, Karissa McLane Hagan, and Abigail McLane Thomsen) and his four grandchildren.

Donald attended Brown University, where he played hockey and lacrosse and studied while he and Joni raised their son, Erik. After his divorce, he taught English at Kennett High School. He then moved to Twisp, WA, and married Lois. Together they built a home that became a place of refuge and kindness for many.

Donald's professional life was as varied as his interests. He worked as a teacher, logger, and contractor but found true joy in the theater. He was an actor, director, and maker of documentaries. He continued to play hockey, ride his bike, and ski locally.

Donald passed away at home in Twisp, surrounded by his son, Erik, and his first wife, Joni.

Last week I was at my cousin Rick Mudges funeral where I saw several pictures Donald, Hockey and football. Rick and Don were born in the same and past away in the same month and year. Donnie helped me learn how to do a Cape Cod landing at Newfound lake which I employed numerous times afterwards. Don was always good to me, sorry for his passing. It was nice knowing the McLane family in Concord and Newfound lake.

Donald was my first crush and first puppy love, for we grew up as neighbors, and I can't remember a time when he wasn't hanging out with us. He was super talented athletically and intellectually. I'm so sad to hear of his passing. Many of us in the neighborhood lost touch with him after he went to private school. RIP Donny...

Heartfelt sympathy to the McLane siblings. Was so sorry to read of Donnie´s death. From another School Street `neighbor´. He certainly lived a very full and interesting life.
