I was very surprised to learn of Mike's passing. We worked together in the USGS from 2002 until 2015 and I had the pleasure of serving as Mike's supervisor for the last 5 years of that period. I can attest to Mike's passion for applying practical Earth science for the good of the public. He was highly committed to advancing the USGS streamgaging network and more effectively delivering the streamflow data and statistics needed for reduction of flood and drought hazards and better management of the Nation's water resources. Mike was well known across the National USGS Water community, a valued colleague, and a recognized and admired leader in thought and initiative who consultive and responsive approach to program management has been greatly missed. I hope that Mike's family and friends take some comfort in Mike's professional achievements and contributions to a stronger Nation.

My condolences to Mike´s family for your loss. I worked with Mike at the UsGS in the office next to him and helped him Publish some of his surface water work. It was a pleasure working with him for several years and he was always friendly and supportive of publishing. I hope he had time To enjoy his retirement years a little.

I was shocked to learn of Mike's passing, which I learned from a former USGS coworker. Mike was my supervisor when he worked in the Massachusetts office of USGS, and then he was a co-worker after we both transferred to the Office of Surface Water at USGS headquarters in Virginia. I always had the greatest respect for Mike. As a boss, he was fair in his dealings with employees. As a co-worker, he was an intelligent, interesting, and fun person to be around. Mike was a great supporter of my career and of the program I lead, StreamStats. I will remember him fondly and appreciate he role he played in my life. My sincere condolences to his family.
