Jane Stieglitz Obituary
Jane Stieglitz
Concord , NH - Jane Stieglitz, wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, guide and dear friend to so many, passed away gracefully on Saturday, March 15th, 2025 with close family around her after a decline following influenza, aged 83.
Born in the British colony of Singapore on January 23, 1942, Jane was the daughter of Dr. Thomas and Jane Divine. Jane was raised in Leeds, England, alongside her with her sisters Christine and Elizabeth. She was educated at Leeds Girls' High School, where she exhibited an early facility for the fine arts and languages, becoming fluent in both French and Latin. She later met her future husband Lewis Stieglitz while visiting Paris.
Their journey carried them first to London where he attended Medical school, then Rochester, NY and ultimately to Concord, NH, where they would settle in 1972. There, Lew established one of New Hampshire's earliest ophthalmology practices, while Jane immersed herself in the raising of their children.
For over two decades, Jane was also a museum docent with the New Hampshire Historical Society. Jane would drive to rural elementary schools across the state with a case of museum artifacts and share her love of New Hampshire history with students.
Jane had a deep appreciation for her home state of New Hampshire, from sailing on Newfound Lake to taking trips to Portsmouth for lobster dinners. A passionate gardener, she coaxed from the oft-unforgiving New England soil an English garden of great elegance and charm. She was a vital and esteemed member of Concord's Garden Club and a superlative wit in her neighborhood book club.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lew and her son, Martin, she is lovingly remembered by her sons, Joe and Jeremy, their wives Dawn and Paula, grandchildren Penelope, Max, Bridey and Zachary and Paula's two children, Sophia and Michael.
Jane will be honored in a private family memorial and in lieu of flowers, we ask you to consider making a donation in honor of Jane to one of her favorite charities: Society for the Protection for New Hampshire Forests.
