John Sears Obituary

TILTON - John H. Sears, 94, of Tilton died peacefully in the company of his family, Saturday, December 8th, 2012 following a brief illness.

John was born in Manchester May 1, 1918, the son of the late John F. and Mehitable M. (Colby) Sears. He was a lifelong resident of Manchester and the Concord area. John proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries he sustained during combat in Anzio. Following his time in the service, John worked in electronics repair at French's Radio and Evan's Radio in Concord and he also worked for a short time at Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, Conn.

John will be remembered fondly for his wonderful sense of humor and strong-willed determination. Having been left legally blind from macular degeneration John still managed to pursue his passion for art and took up painting. He also enjoyed league bowling at Boutwell's in Concord.

John is survived by sons Terrance Sears of Cloroado, James L. Sears of Manchester, and Raymond F. Sears of Loudon; daughters Amelia E. Gibeault of Loudon and Elizabeth A. Sears of Concord; and long-time companion Eugenia Lecht of Concord; brother Arnold Sears of California; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Viola (Simpson).

Private burial will take place at Blossom Hill Cemetery in the spring.

Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Boscawen office, is assisting the family with arrangements. To view an online memorial please go to www.csnh.com.

When I worked with John at Evan's Radio I came to appreciate his humor and admired his ability to befriend most anyone he served. I learned a lot about electronic component parts from his experience and wisdom. To this day my wife (who was also employed there) and I sometimes repeat the words we so often heard John say as he headed out for his lunch break, “It's time to put the feedbag on” or “they're off and running at Hialeah”.

You have lived a long life my old friend and now your eyes will see all the beauty and wonders you have imagined. Our thoughts are with your family in their loss.
