Joseph Wisniewski Obituary

AUBURN - Joseph M. Wisniewski, Jr., 64, of Auburn, passed away suddenly but peacefully at home Thursday, September 13, 2012.

Mr. Wisniewski was born February 6, 1948 in Manchester, the son of Joseph and Mary Frances "Fran" (Peeden) Wisniewski, Sr. He attended local schools. Joe ("Big Joe") was a member of the Manchester Memorial High School "Class of 1966". He graduated from Bowdoin College and earned his law degree from Suffolk University Law School. Joe was a member of the football team in both high school and college and an avid sports car race fan. He earned an advanced legal degree in taxation, with honors, from Boston University School of Law.

Joe practiced law in Manchester from 1975 to 2002 when he retired due to medical reasons. Joe received awards and special recognition for providing pro bono legal services to those who could not afford an attorney. He strongly believed in public service and volunteered his time to various organizations over the years. He was a member of the NH Bar Foundation. Its mission is that justice be understood by and available to all people of New Hampshire.

Members of his family include his wife of 35 years, Janine Gawryl of Auburn; a brother, Donald Wisniewski of Pittsburg, Pa.; a sister, who selflessly and generously donated her kidney in a transplant to Joe in 1997, Karin Schlesinger of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and a cousin, Thomas Wisniewski, an accountant in Manchester.

Funeral services and burial were private.

Contributions in Joe's memory may be made to the NH Bar Foundation at www.nhbarfoundation.org or by mail to 2 Pillsbury St., Concord, NH 03301.
