Louis Bilodeau Obituary

Louis J. Bilodeau Jr., 80, born in New Haven, Conn., died Tuesday, May 16, 2017.  Louie passed away at Pleasant View Center due to his declining health conditions with his step-children, Jean, Kevin, Cheryl and Kevin, by his side.

As many of you know, since Carolyn's passing, his health continually deteriorated.  Beyond any of our expectations, he pressed on for nearly four years.  While never mastering the sickness(es) that bestowed upon him – he would face each of them with acceptance and adaptation.  He neither complained nor fell captive to self-pity.  He was rather remarkable at times.

He was a man who never complained.  He truly accepted life's twists / turns and held on dearly to his time on earth and those closest to him.  While he bounced back many times, his last home event in December took him down a long and steep road. Throughout the past five months, his thrive for life continued unquestionably – until Tuesday.  As painful as it was to witness him letting go of this world yesterday, he is in a better place and at rest.  Albeit he will be missed by all, and for the step children / caregivers – there will be a unique void that will take time to heal.

We would be remiss if we did not note the extraordinary friendship, support and loyalty that Doreen Scovil (neighbor of Louie's) provided to Louie for nearly four years.    Her compassion and humanity is truly beyond explanation.

Louie was predeceased by his wife of 31 years, Carolyn, who passed away November 2013, along with his two brothers, Eugene and Raymond (Butch);  a sister, Alyce Beaule; and his parents, Louis Joseph Wilfred Bilodeau Sr. and Beatrice Rose (Bouffard) Bilodeau.

He is survived by his stepchildren and caregivers, Jean Drouin and her husband, Steven, Cheryl Connor and her husband, Kevin, and Kevin Goupil and his wife, Jessica.  He has seven grandchildren, Toni Coffin, Jessica Drouin, Brett and Cameron Clairmont, Ashley Clark and Amanda and Brandon Goupil; and 11 great-grandchildren, Shannon Coffin, Jenna Wilson, Rebecca Wilson, Lillian Burns, Cooper Martin, Kinley and Karly Clairmont and Caitlyn, Gabrielle and Leeana and Skylar Clark.  He also leaves behind a friendly and loyal neighbor and caregiver Doreen Scovil.

Louis had four of his own children, John Bilodeau and his wife Mae, Frank Bilodeau and his wife, Trish, Ronald Bilodeau and Rose and her husband, Gary Starbird.  He is survived by many grand and great-grandchildren from his children.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, kayaking, watching Nascar Racing and he thoroughly enjoyed his two cats Tobi and Salem.

Before his retirement, he worked for Gary's Service Center as a courtesy driver, and prior to that he worked at Bartlett Tree Service, Asplundh Tree Service and Arwood Manufacturing.

A celebration of life and memorial service with Military Honors will be held Friday, May 19, at 1 p.m. at the State Veteran's Cemetery in Boscawen.

Phaneuf Funeral Home and NH Cremation Society of NH are assisting the family with arrangements.

We would also like to thank the staff at CRVNA & Hospice House and Pleasant View Center for the care that they provide to Louis during the last few months.  Therefore, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Louis' memory to, Concord Regional VNA & Hospice House, 30 Pillsbury St., Concord, NH  03301.

My family only met Louis in his final days sharing a hospital room with my father, but we enjoyed his company, helpfulness and perseverance in light of his situation. He always met us with a smile. We keep his family and neighbor in our hearts & prayers at such a sad time, losing one so precious.
