Louise Lovell Obituary

Goffstown – Louise Lovell, age 101, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2013, at Havenwood in Concord, N.H., where she had resided since 2000. She was born on Paige Hill in Goffstown, N.H., September 19, 1911, the daughter of Stanley K. and Louise (Foster) Lovell. Louise's mother died soon after giving birth. The three Lovell children were raised by Clara Fay Foster Lovell, who became their beloved step-mother.

Louise graduated from Goffstown High School and Simmons College, Class of 1933. She enjoyed her career as Secretary to the Headmaster, Mount Hermon School, Secretary to the Dean at Radcliffe College and for 35 years as Secretary and Administrative Assistant to the Headmaster at Governor Dummer Academy, Byfield, Mass. (Now known as Governors Academy). Louise took great pride in her professionalism, as she assisted the leaders of GDA.

She lived in Newburyport, Mass., where she was active in First Religious Society, the Historical Society of Old Newbury, Custom House Museum, Directors Club of Newburyport YWCA, Merrimack River Watershed Council, Essex County Greenbelt, Maudsley State Park, Newburyport Choral Society, and Newburyport Women's Club.

Louise traveled throughout Europe and the U.S. on many journeys, but seemed to enjoy England the most, returning there many times with special friends. She was a skilled seamstress who made much of her own clothing along with knitting and needlework projects for family. She was a talented oil artist who especially loved to paint at ocean side and in the NH mountains. Plum Island was a favorite spot for painting and visiting with friends. Louise was an avid reader, a super Scrabble player as well as great bridge player!

Predeceasing her are her brother Stewart F. Lovell, New Castle N.H., and sister Mary Virginia Lovell George Collins of Concord, N.H., and nephews James M. George II and Robert L. George. Surviving are her nephew Richard (Robin) Lovell, Moody, Maine, and niece Judith George (Harvey) Stephens Springfield, Ill., three great-nephews and two great-great-nephews.

In accordance with her wishes her body has been donated to medical science and there will not be any services. Westlawn Cemetery in Goffstown will be her final resting place. French and Rising Funeral Home at 17 South Mast Sreet, Goffstown, is assisting with arrangements. For more information or to sign an online guestbook, go to www.frenchandrising.com.

If friends wish, Louise asked that contributions be given to Governors Academy, Simmons College or Havenwood Heritage Heights.
