Lynette Speake Obituary

WILMOT – Lynette C. (Fray) Speake, 65, longtime resident of Wilmot, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon. Lynette was born in Southampton, England on July 12, 1952, daughter of Eric and Enid (Cramer) Fray.

At the age of six, Lynette and her family left England and moved to Canada and then to Northern Virginia.  As a young child in the United States, Lynette loved to use her vivid imagination with friends and often played pioneers in her log cabin playhouse built by her father after being inspired by several television shows such as Wagon Train and The Monroes.  Lynette returned to England for college and after receiving a degree in fashion design from Portsmouth College of Art and Design, she returned to Virginia to begin her working career.  She worked in advertising for a major department store in Washington D.C. before becoming a graphic designer for the Fairfax County School system for many years.  In 1994, Lynette and her family left the busy Northern Virginia area and moved to Wilmot, looking for a rural, slow-paced, and simple life.  After many years as a homemaker, she worked for campus security at Colby-Sawyer College.

Lynette was a very creative soul, and enjoyed anything from sewing and knitting, to baking and gardening.  She always had a creative project she was working on.  One would often find Lynette enjoying a crisp morning outside on her porch with a cup of tea, listening to the wind chimes gently swaying in the breeze.  She particularly enjoyed antiquing and going to yard sales with her friends, visiting living history museums with her daughters, and going to the ocean where she could stick her feet in the cool water, smell the salt in the air, and feel the breeze across her skin.

Lynette leaves behind her husband of 39 years, Jack Speake of Sunapee; her two adult daughters, Allyson of Pembroke and Kelsey of Sunapee; two granddaughters, Avalea and Wren; a brother, Stuart Fray, of St. Albans, England; and two nieces, Hannah and Jessica. She will be sorely missed.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Lynette's memory to the American Diabetes Association, 249 Canal Street, Manchester, NH 03101.

Friends may call Thursday, May 10, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. with service to follow at 5:30 p.m. at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main Street, New London.

Dear Jack, Allyson and Kelsey, I am so sorry for your loss. She was always so full of life and love for her family. She was a loyal friend to me as we were each raising our children in Wilmot. I have many precious memories and will never forget that wonderful accent that she never completely lost. You are in my prayers. I know that this will be an adjustment not easily made. Cling to the sweet memories.
