Margaret Sellar Obituary

Margaret D. Sellar

Concord, NH — "I will love the light for it shows me the way, yet I will endure the darkness for it shows me the stars." (Og Mandino)

Margaret Skarp Sellar, 91, of Concord passed away peacefully on December 2, 2021, at Havenwood in Concord, NH following a brief illness.

On January 16, 1930, Margaret became the youngest of nine children born to Hulda Maria Elizabeth Ketonen Skarp and Frans Oskar Skarp, immigrants from Finland and Sweden. All of whom are predeceased. The family lived tucked into a small home on Lake Street in Concord, NH. As Margaret grew, she attended public schools and graduated National Honor Society at Concord High School.

Margaret was beautiful inside and out with a zest for life and boundless energy to accomplish all she desired including employment with Family Services, Concord Housing Authority, and the Federal Government Action Program from which she retired.

Early on, Margaret met the love of her life, the handsome Waldo F. Sellar with whom she was married for 65 years before his passing in 2016. Margaret and Wally raised and were very proud of their three loving sons: Dr. John Sellar of Bow, Bruce Sellar and his wife Lynda of Hampton and Wayne Sellar of Sacramento, California. She is also survived by six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Margaret was an active member of the Concord community through church organizations and social events. She attended the First Congregational Church and was an honored recipient of the Eastern Star Sixty Years Gold Star Certificate.

Margaret enjoyed attending all the live theater, concerts, and lectures that her community had to offer. In the fall, she went to the agricultural fairs poking through exhibits and animal barns.

During the Holiday Season you could spy Margaret darting in and out of shops with girlfriends during Midnight Merriment.

When summer came and the season warmed, Margaret loved going to the beach to soak up the sun or to the lake house where she would entertain friends and relatives offering waterskiing, boating and lots of laughs while lounging on the dock. At the end of the evening, she enjoyed sitting on the porch with a glass of wine while listening to the loons.

Margaret maintained long, faithful friendships with her childhood friends and relatives with whom she traveled via planes, trains, buses, automobiles and ships throughout the United States, Europe, Scandinavia, and various islands.

Although committed to everyone, Margaret enjoyed her independence and kept her driver's license until her health became a concern. She then moved from her home in Bow to Concord's Havenwood Retirement Community.

Through the years, Margaret delighted in her husband, sons, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends as they gathered together during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Margaret will truly be missed this Holiday Season.

Family and friends are invited to attend the cemetery committal at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 21st in the chapel at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway in Boscawen. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Shepherds Beyond Borders, PO Box 104, West Enfield, ME 04493; or The Pleasant Lake Preservation Association, Attn: Treasurer, PO Box 53, Deerfield, NH 03037. I knew Margaret through Eastern Star and her son longer than his mom. She was always smiling and was a joy to be around with a great zest for life. This will be a loss for her family, friends, and those that knew her. The heavens have a new bright star watching over us. Glad to have had a chance to know her.

Margaret and I found a connection right from the beginning ...We spent much time together taking small adventures, cooking together, sharing meals and chatting about the day´s events, or just laughing about memories.
When Margaret went to assisted living, I visited as often as I could and always told her I would be there for whatever she needed...Our bond was deep...I told her many times how much she meant to me and that I loved her like a mom...She always replied that I was the daughter she never had which made my heart full. I am truly going to miss this gem of a lady... Margaret...You now have the freedom to dance and enjoy every minute without pain...Know my love for you will remain in my heart forever...

I have so many childhood memories of the fun our mom's had together. Your mom made the best banana bread, I loved playing at your your home, she was so kind and loving. She never scolded me when I was naughty . You did have the best parents, we all loved them both so much. Now they are having a beautiful reunion together.
