Mary Kibling Obituary



Concord, NH — Born in Bronxville, NY, February 26, 1921, Mary Louise Kibling died at her home in Concord March 26th. Mary grew up in southern Connecticut, the daughter of Louis and Mary de Garmo. She married F. Harvey Kibling in 1946 after both were discharged from service in the US Navy during World War II. The couple moved to Concord with their three daughters in 1955. In Concord, she was a Girl Scout leader, a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, and a church school teacher. She designed and escorted tour groups for Rumford Travel, was a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club's New England Four Thousand Footer Club, the Mountain Goat Hikers, the Concord Area Senior Wellness Team, the New Hampshire Writers' Project and the Concord Conservation Commission Trails Committee. She was the author of two hiking guides and two outdoor cookbooks. Beginning in 1998, she contributed the "On the Move" column to the Sunday Monitor for over ten years. Mary leaves her three daughters, Ann Caswell, Mary Chapman and Jenny Timbas, son-in-law David Chapman, grandchildren Matthew Caswell and his wife Cameron, Cory Caswell, Andrew Chapman and his partner Kathryn Lehman, Jonathan Timbas and his wife Colleen, Jeffrey Timbas and his wife Meghan, and Eliza Labrecque and her husband Jeffrey. She leaves eight great grandchildren: Emmett and Agnes Caswell, Josephine and Wesley Blair, Christopher, Cian and Cameron Timbas, and Griffin Labrecque as well as nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband, F. Harvey Kibling, sister Barbara Nichols, brother John deGarmo, and son-in-law David Caswell. A memorial gathering will be held later in the spring. Donations in her memory may be sent to The Friendly Kitchen, 2 S. Commercial St., Concord Conservation Commission, 54 Portsmouth St., or Granite VNA Hospice Program, 30 Pillsbury St.

My thoughts and prayers go out to to all of you. I worked with Mary at Rumford Travel and she has always held a special spot in my heart. She was a friend that truly blessed my life and she will never be forgotten. Rest in peace Mary.
