Priscilla Tillson Thatcher

1936 - 2013

RUTLAND TOWN, Vt. - Priscilla Tillson Thatcher, a 45 year resident of Rutland Town, Vt., died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, after a long illness.

Born on March 30. 1936, in Middleboro, Mass., the daughter of Bernard E. Tillson and Violet E. (Lovell) Tillson, Priscilla grew up in South Carver, Mass. and graduated from Plymouth High School before attending the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston.

In 1956 she married Clifford R. Thatcher Jr. They had four children, C. R. Thatcher III, Katherine, Susan and Laura. Priscilla was preceded in death by her husband in 2011, after 55 years of marriage.

An accomplished watercolorist, Priscilla painted continuously until her death. Her subjects included her favorite Vermont scenes, as well as locations discovered during the many trips she and her husband took over the years. She was especially fond of the Florida Keys where she spent parts of 10 winters, and the views around Lake Champlain. The Thatcher's maintained a boat on Lake Champlain for two decades, spending nearly every weekend from spring to autumn on the lake. They and their many friends in the Royal Savage Yacht Club often traveled into the St. Lawrence River, venturing to Ottawa, and Quebec City. On other occasions the group went south, making trips to New York City by boat.

Mrs. Thatcher is survived by her four children and five grandchildren as well as her sister and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial will be arranged at the convenience of the family at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to either the Rutland Area Visiting Nurses and Hospice Association or The Hyder Family Hospice Home in Dover.
