Richard Bowie Obituary

Richard Francis Bowie

Centralia, IL - Richard (Dick) Francis Bowie, 92, of Centralia, Illinois, died on March 31, 2025.

Dick was born in Quincy, Massachusetts on August 29, 1932, to Norbert and Margaret (Walsh) Bowie. Dick's early years were spent between Braintree and Cape Cod surrounded by his ever expanding, close knit extended family.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife Phyllis 'Kim' (Kimball) Bowie, and is survived by his four children, Brian F. Bowie, Cindy (Joseph) Jones, Karen (Louis) Vendetti and Lynne (Ken) Bowie-Ellis and five grandchildren, Dayna Jones (Justin Matthews), Robert (Abigail) Jones, Louis Vendetti (Cassandra Ellis), Loren Vendetti, and Evan Bowie; as well as four great-grandchildren: Mairin Belle Matthews, and Briar, Trixie, and Agnes Jones. Along with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Dick is survived by his brother, William (Bill) Bowie and sister-in-law, Beverly.

Dick graduated from Braintree High School and Boston College before entering the Air Force and traveling to Texas for training. Dick enjoyed telling stories about this time in his life and the people he met. He was proud to serve his country as a Korean war veteran. Having grown up with his father and several uncles serving in World War 2, he was an avid reader of all World War 2 novels, specifically the war in the Pacific, where his dad and several uncles served.

Following his time in the service, Dick was weighing several job opportunities, and made the decision to move his young family to Concord, New Hampshire, to work for a new company, Universal Packaging and shortly after they found their home on Broadway. Cape Cod remained an

important part of Dick's life and a place for his extended family to come together each summer. In retirement, Dick enjoyed traveling, antiquing, golfing, and playing cards, especially Texas hold'em.
