Sally Zink Obituary

WONALANCET - Sally Youmans Zink died peacefully at home in Wonalancet, Mass. Friday, Nov. 8, 2013.

She was born in Lawrence, Mass. on Jan. 14 1927, the daughter of Dr. Ray S. Youmans and Sarah (Springall) Youmans. After attending high school in Fort Knox, Ky. she graduated from Lesley College with a degree in elementary education. Following her graduation she taught kindergarten and first grade.

She married George Zink, eventually moving to Groton, Mass. where she was a full time mother. George and Sally retired to Wonalancet in 1982. She was active in the community, volunteering at Cook Memorial Library, Meals on Wheels, and RSVP. She enjoyed playing bridge, reading, playing the piano, visiting the ocean, bird watching, and spending time with her family. With her husband she became involved with conservation issues by supporting wilderness preservation and editing the WODC newsletter.

She is predeceased by her husband, George; her two sisters, Betty and Jane; and is survived by a brother, Dr. Ray Youmans, from Bonita Springs, Fla.; and four children, Nancy Zink-Mailloux and her husband, Ken Mailloux, of Salisbury, George Zink and his wife, Pat, of Francestown, Jeff Zink and his wife, Cindy Nickerson, of Merrimac, Mass. and Martha and Tom Wright of Fort White, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. She leaves behind five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

She will be missed by family, friends, her cat Callie, and her wonderful caregivers and neighbors who made it possible for her to spend her final days at home.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 8, at 1:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Eastern Slopes (UUFES) in Tamworth. All who attend are asked to bring a bell with them.

Donations in Sally's name may be made to Tamworth Community Nurse Association (TCNA) or UUFES, both in Tamworth.
