Shirley Upton Obituary
She was born in Concord on May 5, 1938, to Louis Whiting and Philomena A. (Smet) Whiting.
She was predeceased by her brothers George, Arthur and Robert, and her sister Rose. She leaves behind her sister Arlene Weeks; her children Paul Himes Jr. and his wife, Lorri, Wayne Himes and his wife, Cheryl, Laurie Wasp and her husband, Dennis, Craig Himes, Heather Tobine and Amber Engelhardt. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren, Jennica, Justin, Sarah, Tyler, Hannah, Brayton, Jade, Nathaniel, Robert, Michael, Stephanie and Joseph; as well as her 7 great grandchildren Jacob, Jocelyn, Aiden, Alec, Callista, Emiliano and Benjamin; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was very proud of her educational accomplishments. While raising her children, she completed her GED and graduated from New Hampshire Hospital's CNA program. She went on to work for the hospital for 28 years. After retirement, she worked for HealthSouth, Twitchell House and Concord VNA. She was an active member of the Boscawen Congregational Church where she participated in the choir and volunteered for the Clothes Closet. Shirley loved the outdoors, camping with her family, swimming, gardening, family gatherings, knitting and caring for her children and grandchildren. She was a dedicated Sunday school teacher for many years.
A celebration of Shirley's life will be held at the Boscawen Congregational Church, 12 High St., at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 21, 2014.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Shirley's memory to the Boscawen Congregational Church.

I will miss your soft, almost angelic voice when you sang your favorite song, "As the Deer." You loved the Lord and He gave you the strength to raise six children. You loved and served your family to the end. Let's sing a duet to the Lord when I get there.
