I trained and served as a Peace Corps volunteer with Steve in Niger. He was so hard working and respectful to all, whether he was practicing Hausa, teaching or socializing with Peace Corps volunteers. Such good memories! My sincere condolences. Amy Fitzpatrick O'Neill

I have been a friend of Steve and Wendy for over 40 years. When I think of people who deserve reverence and respect for their accomplishments, those two rate quite high on my list. Which is why what happened is so tragic. A wonderful couple and two great people. My heart goes out to their families.

I had the privilege of periodically working with Steve in several African countries and the US over a period of three decades. I could not name a professional collaborator for whom I have greater respect and admiration than I have for Steve. His unique combination of calm, competence and humility made him a role model in my eyes. I also had the good fortune on occasion to enjoy a group meal with Wendy, whose warm and outgoing personality ensured pleasant evenings and lasting memories. You´ve enriched my life, Steve and Wendy - and I´m a better person for that.

Most of us reading this obituary did not know this couple but, in the brotherhood of man we grieve as intensely as we would for our own friends and family, maybe more.
May the road rise to meet them...RIP

So sorry to the Reid family for your loss. In addition to school, I remember playing sports and tennis with Steve growing up in the south-end. Even then, growing up just having fun as kids, he was a kind, intelligent, fun, family oriented person. And although reserved, always showed his competitiveness in sports. Reading this, and seeing all he has done throughout the years, is not only honorable, but very consistent with all those attributes he showed growing up. And it sounds like he was fortunate that when he found, met, and married Djeswende, that he found a person with those same attributes. Thinking of you, and so sorry for your loss.
