Sue Ross Obituary

Sue Ann Ross

Chichester, NH - Sue Ann Ross, 75, of Chichester, passed away at home on July 14, 2025, after a lengthy battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 10, 1950, in Concord, NH, to her late parents Earl and Beverly (Benson) Wheeler. Sue was raised and educated in Bow and graduated from Concord High School with the Class of 1968. In 1971, Sue married the love of her life, Charles "Chuck" Edward Ross. After his discharge from the military, they settled in the Concord area to start and raise a family.

Sue, when she was younger, worked in the family business at Barney's Floral Shop as a floral designer. After several years her career took her in a different direction, and she worked as a teacher's assistant at Broken Ground Elementary School for 18 years. Sue was actively involved in her community and her children's activities. She was named East Concord's Citizen of the Year, President of the Lamplighters, and devoted countless hours with her daughters to the Girl Scouts.

Sue was a selfless, kind, caring, and compassionate soul who never met a stranger she didn't like. Aside from being everyone's best friend, she enjoyed the simple pleasures in life from quilting, reading, playing cards, and enjoying time with friends and family. Sue enjoyed traveling and vacationing in Aruba, Florida, and York, ME. She and her family spent many of their summers on the beach in York, where she also made many lifelong friends. Sue touched many lives in many different circles, where she will be loved, cherished and missed by all.

Sue, who was the cherished matriarch of her family, is survived by her husband Chuck, also of Chichester, with whom she celebrated 54 years of marriage together and her two daughters, April Ross of Concord, NH, and Katherine Ross of York, ME. She is also the beloved grandmother of Emma and Maggie Hall. Sue is also survived by sister Karen Crump and her husband Gerald of Concord, and her brother Kevin Wheeler of Allenstown, NH, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Richard Wheeler.

Visitation for Sue will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2025, from 1:00 – 4:00 PM at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 North Main Street, Concord. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on the morning of July 21, 2025, at 9:00 AM. Interment to follow at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH. In lieu of flower, please consider a donation in Sue's memory to either St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105, online at www.stjude.org, or to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave, Boston, MA 02215, online at www.danafarber.jimmyfund.org. Sue and I first met when we were children taking tap, ballet and baton lessons from Mrs Demers in the south end of Concord. We became reacquainted when our children were in elementary school. She was a wonderful person who was always happy and smiling. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family. May the memories you shared help you through this difficult time. She will be missed.
