Warren Steele Obituary
George Warren Steele, friend of theater, ballet dancer on the tennis court, died December 16, 2024 in the good hands of the Ascension Medical Center, Austin Texas. He spent his final days discussing atheism and theology with his nurses, and fiercely bargaining for more cookies. Warren was born September 23rd 1944 in Daytona Beach to Dana Allen Steele Sr. and Elizabeth Hale Warren Steele. He was trained by his mother with his brother Dana to a high level of country tennis. Warren and Dana won the Chocorua doubles championship three years running. Warren taught tennis in North Conway. As a child, Warren was full of fun, he and his brother Dana had a great collection of comic books; he built a magical treehouse on Great Hill Road. Warren died of Hodgkin's lymphoma. He was treated successfully for the disease twice. He played in the Dana Steele memorial classic in 2022 and had the best form on the court, his third battle with Hodgkins notwithstanding. He mastered a wry sense of humor. He performed in The Barnstormers theater with notable roles in Toad of Toad Hall, Damask Cheek, My Three Angels and Caine Mutiny. He also assisted in a number of skits for Joanne Cave's seventieth birthday. He continued his passion for theater in Boston MA, Daytona Beach Florida and Austin TX. Some of The Barnstormers' core cast came to Daytona, and performed in plays he wrote. He loved to direct plays and was a colorful director. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Dana and his first wife Suzanne. His dog Lupe was with him in recent years, on the court and off. He is survived by his second ex-wife Charlene, his niece Molly Steele and family, two devoted sisters-in-law, cousins of all ages, and so many good friends in theatre, scrabble, tennis, books, family, and his community. His dream was to build a small self-sustaining Theatre/ Artists' center in Whiteface to support artists and stage dreamers. We will miss you Warren. Fly with green trees, good company, and your dreams.
