Donald Koffroth Obituary
U.S. Veteran
Donald Milton Koffroth, born in Akron, Ohio on July 18,1938 at 1:12 a.m. in the morning at the Peoples Hospital. His death was at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia on March 9, 2025 at 1:20 a.m. Don was 86 years old.
He attended Stow High School and graduated in the Class of 1957. He was a member of the Drama Club, sang in the Glee Club, and ran track and field where he lettered.
Don went into the Naval Service right out of High School and entered into the service on June 17, 1957 serving for 10 years being honorably discharged on September 5, 1967 with a rank of E6 AMS1 Petty Officer First Class, where he was a sheet metal mechanic and served in the Aewron One Typhoon Trackers stationed at Guam in the Western Pacific where he proudly served.
After his Naval career, Don worked in Cleveland, Ohio in the Airplane manufacturing industry for several companies, one being American Aviation Small Planes Division in Cleveland, Ohio and moved to Pooler, Georgia in 1976 when then, Grumman American bought the small planes division from Cleveland and he moved the family to Pooler, Georgia along with a number of fellow employees and friends. The company changed leadership a couple of times until it became Gulfstream Aerospace, and Don was working with the Experimental Department which he enjoyed. He retired at the age of 55 and became self-employed. A few years later until the age of 70, Don returned to Gulfstream as a contractor in the parts division.
Don rededicated his life to the LORD Jesus Christ at Grace Gospel Alliance Church in Ravenna, Ohio. He and his family attended Bloomingdale Alliance Church in Bloomingdale, Georgia under the leadership of Rev. Kenneth Otto and was a member for 48 years until it became Bloomingdale Community Church under the leadership of Rev. Richard Collins the previous two years. He loved his pastor and church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent, Elder, Governing Board Member, Alliance Men's President, Alliance Men's Treasurer, Usher, and helped out in the children's summer VBS program. Don loved Sunday School, cooking for the Old Savannah City Missions and was always at church meetings anytime the doors were open and attended up until the time he went to be with the LORD he served and loved so much.
His hobbies literally were planes, trains, and automobiles. He loved the music of Chuck Berry, Fatz Dominoe, Credence Clearwater Revival, Willie Nelson, and others. His favorite song was by the Centrymens Choir called "At the Cross".
He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Lowell Koffroth; mother, Hellen Hall Koffroth; brother, David Charles Koffroth; sister, Christine Ann Koffroth MacAdam; daughter, Loretta Sue Koffroth, step-son, Phillip Drummond, and granddaughter, Patricia Cari Govero.
Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Carol Kahrs Koffroth; children, Donnie Koffroth (Kay), Sharon Govero (Ron), WIlliam Koffroth, Christine Batterton (Shawn), and Chester Koffroth (Jennifer); step-children, David Drummond and Ruth Kleinpeter (Michael) 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren, and his sister, Janet Sue Koffroth of Canton, Ohio.
The memorial service to honor Donald's life will be on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at 2 p.m. at the Bloomingdale Community Church located at 501 West U.S. Highway 80 in Bloomingdale, Georgia.
