James Chandler Obituary
After earning a Master's of Public Administration from VCU, Sandy retired in 2005 from a long and varied career with the City of Savannah. As a young man, Sandy served in the Navy as a Boatswain's Mate and in the Coastguard Reserves. On his time off, Sandy liked tooling around in his skiff, metal detecting, reading about history, finding artifacts and other treasures, drawing in pen and ink, grilling outside, drinking beer, and smoking pot. He is survived by his wife Sally S. Chandler, son James Chandler III, and brother Christopher Chandler. His parents, Mac and Kay Chandler, predeceased him.
Sandy loved his cats - Rags, Ernie, Daisy, Leo, Tufts, Mandy, Grable, and Cleo - and gave yearly to the Humane Society of Greater Savannah.
There will be no funeral service.

Sandy and I were neighbors in the early 1950s on Columbus Drive. It was a dirt road at the time.
Sandy and I were constant companions until my family moved across town in 1958. We lived the American dream as youngsters.
Sally, you have my most sincere prayers for your loss.

Oh, Sally, I am so sorry to hear this. My parents loved Kay and Mac, and Sandy is one of my earliest friends from childhood. The last time I saw him on Tybee I showed him photos of them from the early 1960's that I had found. I had hoped to see him the next time I visited Savannah. We spent so much time together as kids and we always stayed in touch - although infrequently as we grew old. I shall miss him so very much. He was a fine man. The world is a lesser place without him.
