James Edward Jackson, Sr.

1951 - 2025

James Edward Jackson, Sr., a lifelong resident of the Savannah area, passed away peacefully on his 74th birthday, September 30, 2025.

Born in 1951, James grew up in Port Wentworth, GA, where he developed a love for hunting, fishing, farming and horseback riding-passions that stayed with him throughout his life. He dedicated his career to public service, retiring as Captain from the Savannah Fire Department after 35 years of honorable service. Even in retirement, his commitment to the community never waned. He served as Fire Chief of the Port Wentworth Volunteer Fire Department for 23 years and even spent time in the past working part-time with the Chatham County Sheriff's Department Mounted Patrol Division.

James was a proud member of the Thunderbolt Masonic Lodge and the Alee Temple Shrine, organizations that reflected his deep values of fellowship, integrity, and service.

He was predeceased by his parents, James and Henrietta Jackson, and his beloved brother, Dennis Jackson.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Catherine Jackson; his son, James Jackson, Jr.; his granddaughter, Dakota Jackson; his brothers, Greg Jackson (Carolyn) and Michael Jackson (Jean); and his sister-in-law, Nancy D. Traywick (Craig Plumbley). He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, extended family, friends, and fellow first responders who will miss him dearly.

Visitation will be held from 6:00pm ~ 8:00pm on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, West Chatham Chapel.

Funeral service will be at 10:00am on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, West Chatham Chapel.

Interment will follow the service in Oak Hill Cemetery, Meldrim
