Janice Sutherland Obituary

Mrs. Janice Leggett Sutherland, age 89, of Savannah passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025.

Mrs. Sutherland was born on January 21, 1936 in Brookhaven, Mississippi to the late Jesse Lee Leggett and the late Edith Elizabeth West. She and her family moved to Hazlehurst, Mississippi, where she grew up and graduated high school. She then graduated from Copiah-Lincoln Junior College in Brookhaven, Mississippi. She later married the late Bill Sutherland of Canton Mississippi and they moved to Savannah with IBM.

She had three children, Tara (Brian), Alison, and John. She had four grandchildren, Harris, Gable, Brendan and Haley with also seven great grandchildren. She adored every one of them. Mrs. Sutherland attended Southside Baptist Church, where she faithfully served singing in past choirs, taught Sunday School, and was at one time president of the church's WMU organization. She loved the Lord with all her heart and we have assurance that she is in the arms of her Savior. Thank you Jesus!

A private family graveside service will be held at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Southside Baptist Church (5502 Skidaway Road Savannah, GA 31406).
