Marylyn Young

1932 - 2025

Marylyn B. Young, 93, died peacefully at The Watermark at East Hill in Southbury, Connecticut on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. She was born in Montpelier, Vermont, the daughter of the late Clyde Bushey and Lenore Tibbetts. Marylyn was raised by her aunt and uncle, the late Eugene and Louise LaPlant in Woodbury, Vermont and then in Portland, Connecticut. Marylyn was a devout Catholic her whole life.

Marylyn met her husband Charles "Chuck" Young when they were both working at the State Department in Washington D.C. They married on May 2, 1958 and soon thereafter moved to Windsor, Connecticut, where they raised their four daughters.

Marylyn retired from the Hartford Public School system where she was a secretary. Upon retiring Marylyn and Chuck moved to Pine Knoll Shores, North Carolina then later to Raleigh, North Carolina. When Marylyn moved to North Carolina she got her real estate license and sold property for many years. She enjoyed playing cribbage with her children and grandchildren, golfing and playing cards with friends and reading.

Marylyn was preceded in death by her husband Chuck. She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Jura and husband Thomas of Newtown, Connecticut, Ellen Young and husband Russell Ward of Farmington, New Hampshire, Martha Gaskill and husband Thomas of Beaufort, North Carolina, Caroline Connelly and husband Martin of Bend, Oregon. She was also blessed with ten grandchildren, Ben (Kelly) and Dan Jura, Rebecca (Aaron) VanDenBerg, Michael Young-Ward, Sam Gaskill, Hannah (Ryan) Legarsky, Katie (Taylor) Shealy, David (Christina) Connelly, Carli Connelly (Andrej), Luke (Haley) Connelly and six great-grandchildren, Linus and Merrick Jura, Eleanor and Desmond VanDenBerg, Gracie and Joelle Connelly.

A private service will be held at a later date in Connecticut.
