Dr. Paul McLeod Brinson Jr.

1949 - 2025

Dr. Paul McLeod Brinson Jr. (Mac) was born to Paul and Eloise Brinson in Savannah, GA on December 29th, 1949. He passed away on October 20th , 2025, at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, GA at the age of 75.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Jane Brinson; his son, Clay Brinson (wife Tiffany); and his grandsons Holder(age 13) and Beau(age 11).

Mac was a 1968 graduate of Effingham County High School, following this he obtained a BS in Biology, a Masters in Education, a Masters in School Administration, a Educational Specialist degree, but his proudest educational accomplishment was receiving an educational doctorate, all from Georgia Southern University. He was part of the first cohort at Georgia Southern to receive this degree in 1996. Clearly loving education, he also received a JD from John Marshall Law School as well.

He loved to read, study, and had a passion for education. After retiring from the Effingham County School system as an administrator with 31 years of service, he returned to GSU to serve another 20 years as a graduate school professor in the department of Educational Administration.

Mac and Mary Jane had many wonderful years together, but the birth of their only son and their two grandsons were their proudest accomplishments. Mac was an avid UGA fan and enthusiastic about youth sports for both his son and grandsons.

He is a longtime member of Springfield Oaks Church where visitation will be held on Thursday, October 23rd at 9:30 am, with the church service following at 11am. The address of the church is: 210 Cleveland St., Springfield, GA 31329.

This will be followed by a burial service at Effingham Memorial Gardens.
