Virginia Kaplan Obituary

Virginia Elizabeth Mauney Kaplan passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, just two days after her 101st birthday. She was born on June 24, 1924, to Henry Clay Mauney and Sallie Cline Mauney, in Everett City, GA, until she moved to Savannah, GA, where she was married to Alex Kaplan, and raised their children.

Virginia's greatest loves were her children, her Lord, and studying the Bible. She became a missionary on the Navajo Reservation in Arizona in the 80's and 90's and made several missionary trips to Haiti. After moving to Conyers, GA in 1992, she conducted Bible studies for many years to the women in the Rockdale County Jail and subsequently to the senior citizens in several assisted living homes.

Virginia is survived by daughters: Sally Owens (Don) of Ronks, PA, Ann Kaplan of Lawrenceville, GA, and Esther Montanaro (Randall Smith) of Lilburn, GA; sons: Sam Kaplan of Lawrenceville, GA, David Kaplan (Leah) of Jerusalem, Israel, and Marc Kaplan of Charleston, SC; grandchildren: Leesa Johnson (Wendell) of Lake Village, Arkansas, Julie Weber (fiancee, Chris Hamilton) of Lebanon, Kentucky, Brett Kaplan (Michelle), Jonathan Kaplan (Ellie), Brooke Baral (Pesach), Susan Nissimov, all of Atlanta, GA; Jenny Simon (Benji) of Chicago, IL, Zach Kaplan (Hodaya) of Bat Yam, Israel, Ziv Kaplan, of Tiberias, Israel, and Ashley Early (Matt) of Charleston, SC; 22 great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred Kegebein of Moultrie, GA and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by: her parents, her siblings: 4 brothers and 3 sisters, and her daughters, Julie Kaplan and Ruthie Kaplan.

Virginia was very generous-hearted, tenacious and determined, and never met a stranger. She was loved and admired by her children, extended family, and friends and will be greatly missed.

Graveside services will be held July 1, 2025, at 1:00 pm, at Greenwich Cemetery, Savannah, GA, with Pastor Timothy Hunter presiding. Gamble Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
