Benny Hodges Obituary

Benny Frank Hodges, Sr. left this world to be with the Lord on February 1, 2023 at the age of 71, surrounded by his family. Benny was born on April 19, 1951 to Benjamin Eugene Hodges and Ruby Elese Grisham Hodges, in Conroe, Montgomery County, Texas. He was a lifelong resident of the area in which he was born.

Drafted during the Vietnam War, Benny trained and served with infantry units stationed in Fort Polk, Louisiana and Fort Sill, Oklahoma. While his time in the Army was shortened due to family illness, his dedication to service, concern for his fellow soldiers safe return, and regard for his country was deep. He had the utmost respect for the men and women serving in the military, then and now.

In 1972, Benny married the love of his life, Roberta Holliday Hodges in Conroe, Texas. Benny and Roberta went on to have three children and last October celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The love for his family was fierce and unwavering; you knew he loved you, and had your back, no matter what. For Benny, family was first. He defined family as not only the people you are related to, but, lifelong or otherwise, many of his friends were truly considered his family.

Jack of all trades and a man who mastered anything he attempted, Benny was an expert in all fields of construction and general contracting. Always striving for the highest level of functionality and excellence, Benny was among the first to arrive and last to leave the job site, on many occasions. His stamp is on shopping centers, professional buildings, personal residences, gas stations, pools, fences, pipelines, oil rigs and so many others throughout Texas, Oklahoma and reaching as far north as Michigan.

Throughout his life, Benny enjoyed being outdoors; hunting (both arrowheads or animals), fishing with a pole or trot line, and exploring the river. Everyone who knew him, could see the gift he had with animals, the domesticated ones as well as the wild ones. It was not uncommon to encounter a pet dog, deer, opossum, raccoon, squirrel or maybe even an old alligator at Benny and Roberta's house.

His love, laughter and warmth will be missed beyond measure. Benny was predeceased by his father, mother, and sister: Verna Jean Hodges Temple.

He is survived by his Wife: Roberta Holliday Hodges; Children: Rachel Elese Hodges Simons and husband Kenneth, Rebecca Jean Hodges Westhoff and husband David, and Benny Frank Hodges, Jr. and wife Vanessa; Sister: Linda Kay Harvell; Grandchildren: Dustin Clay Simons, Dylan Christopher Simons, Aryia Natalie Riggs, Lilyana Grace Hodges, Leylani Hope Hodges, Alex Scott Westhoff, Nathan James Westhoff, Megan Danielle Westhoff, and Lily Anne Westhoff; "Brother" Lawrence C. "Corkey" Pittman; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 12th from 5pm-7pm at Conroe Funeral Directors: 1504 N. Thompson Street, Conroe, Texas.

Graveside service will be held on Monday, February 13th at 11am at Mt. Zion Cemetery (off Sawdust Road): 25123 Harper Lane, The Woodlands, Texas.

Reception to follow Graveside service at Chateau Woods Community Clubhouse: 10224 Fairview Drive, Conroe, Texas.

Pallbearers: Dustin Simons, Dylan Simons, Kenneth Simons, David Westhoff, Justin Holliday and Andrew Hardage. Honorary Pallbearers: Corky Pittman, Marvin Grisham , Jim Riley, Norman Griggs, Bryant Baugus, Matt Hardage, and Nathan Westhoff.

3rd year my love, and it doesn´t get any easier. But I am thankful to God every day for our family and confident everything will be ok when my time comes, to meet our God and His Son, Jesus, and to be with you again. We have so much to catch up on, which, you probably already know know. Rest peacefully and know all will be ok down here- it´s all God´s Will, not mine. I love you forever and ever Amen

Mr. Hodges was always a welcome sight at our clinic. He was kind and gracious to everyone. He never failed to acknowledge the staff and tell them how much he appreciated them. He is missed.

Yes, it´s been 2 years now since you left me and God gained another Angel. Things are so very different without you. It´s been really hard to adjust to a lot. Our kids are amazing, as you already know, and are taking really good care of me. I´ll be ready if it´s tonight, tomorrow or whenever God is ready for me to go so I can be with you for eternity.
I love and miss you more than can be imagined. Rest in loving Peace my darlin
Love, Roberta "Anne"

I´ve waited to add to these beautiful condolences. Probably because I never was too good with words. You and I had over 50 years together through some very hard ugly times and through lots of easy and happy times. This picture you had me take of you last October was some kind of omen in disguise. Who would have known that in 3 short months I would not have you here by my side anymore. We´ve talked about how our last time together would be like and expect of each other and I hope and pray that I fulfilled that request for you. I wanted you to get well so you could leave that hospital and come home to me. My life has changed enormously and our kids have been so supportive, helpful, loving, caring and so much more. But they, too, lost someone - their Daddy that they idolized!
Well, this page is for memories and condolences and I could fill up a whole book. My years with you are never to be forgotten or replaced and I look forward to the day I will meet you in Heaven. Your love was always appreciated and is forever sealed in my heart. "You ask me if there´ll come a time when I´ll grow tired of you - NEVER MY LOVE, NEVER MY LOVE"

Well Daddy, you have finally made it home. I know you will watch over us here until we meet again. I´ll expect nothing less than to have you meet me there at the gates when my time comes. Until then, I love you, I will miss you and thank you for the grit you gave me. Fly high, fly fast, soar with those you have missed - see you there when my time here is done,
Love,
Your first born ...

Your hugs were strong, warm and full of the dad squeeze; a snuggly bear hug. No one does hugs like Daddy did. I won't forget the tickle of your beard or the smell of your cologne.

I don't have words to express how much I will miss you, but I know you are always with me. And ALWAYS have my back. Love, your one and only, Red Fred

What was God thinking when he made this guy???? I´m sure it must have been " Theres a bunch of people who need a very special guy in their lives. A guy who will be there when they need him. A guy who will love with his whole heart. A guy who will go out of his way to help others . A guy that is Benny Frank!"
It´s been too many years since I´ve seen you Benny. That day at Mt. Zion somehow you must of known it would the last time. It was a sad day as we all shed tears and said goodbye to Donnie.
When I was leaving the cemetery you hugged me and said " bye-bye girl, I love you". I´ll cherish that memory forever. Fly high and don´t get my boy Trey into any shenanigans up there in Heaven!
I love you Benny. See you later!

Well, to say you will be missed is just not enough, I know you will fly high with your beautiful family and friends, including all the non human ones. You were truly one of a kind and anyone who knew you expected one of those huge hugs when you stepped out of the truck. Thanks for all the kindness , keep and eye out for all of us below, we will never forget you...Nancy and Mike
