Dr. Donald Edward Stillwagon

1950 - 2025

Dr. Donald Edward Stillwagon (AKA Doc), 75, of The Woodlands, Texas passed away on December 8, 2025 surrounded by family, after a long illness. Born in Uniontown, Pa on August 9, 1950, he was the son of Donald E. Stillwagon, Sr and Margaret L. Huey.

He is preceded in death by his parents Donald and Margaret (Huey) Stillwagon. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Denise Morin Stillwagon of The Woodlands, Tx. Children Matthew Stillwagon and wife Billie of The Woodlands, Tx, Michael Stillwagon of Quincy, Ma., Mary Stillwagon Edgerly and husband Paul of The Woodlands, Tx. Grandchildren Conall Stillwagon of Bangor, Me, Travis Stillwagon of Brockton, Ma, Claire Stillwagon, Anthony Avelar and Jackson Edgerly of the Woodlands, Tx along with Adriana Avelar and Gage Avelar of Fort Worth, Tx. Sister Kathryn (Stillwagon) and husband Eric Corbet of Toms River NJ along with a multitude of nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces throughout the country.

From a very early age, Don followed his dream of wanting to help people by becoming a doctor. He attended schools in Toms River, NJ, graduating from Rutgers University in Brunswick, NJ. Graduated medical school from SUNY Downstate Health Science University in New York and completed his Family Practice residency at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, Maine.

Don began practicing medicine in Orono, Maine before taking on a position as Assistant Director of the Family Practice Residency Program in Barberton, Ohio and eventually becoming director of the UT Family Practice Residency Program in Conroe, Texas. In this way he combined his love for medicine and teaching future physicians.

In 1985, Don decided to return to private practice by opening a new office in The Woodlands, then a new and growing community. His office in Panther Creek was the first medical facility located outside of Grogans Mill. It was his firm belief that doctors should be located within the heart of the community. His small practice of 1 doctor, one nurse and one front office staff quickly grew over the years and today is now Highland Woods Health (previously Village Medical Center) with two offices located in both Panther Creek and Alden Bridge in The Woodlands. Known lovingly as "Doc" by his staff, Don retired from practice in 2020. Many talented physicians and medical professionals continue to carry on his legacy. He was Board certified in Family Practice, Geriatrics and Bariatrics medicine.

Don was a leader in the Montgomery County Medical community, helping with the development of the first hospital in The Woodlands Community.

Don had great love for his wife, Denise, and family. They were the pride and joy of his life. He is famously remembered by colleagues as saying "In Family Practice, family comes first" and he lived that. Although medicine consumed much of his time, he always "found the time to make the time" for his family first whether coaching Little League, attending his children's various sports, dance and music events. He was always there for them. And he truly relished seeing the world anew in the eyes of his grandchildren.

Don greatly enjoyed sailing, snorkeling, skiing, attending live theatre and music, gardening and experimentation with wine making and the creation of (It's Still) Wagon's Whinery. He was an avid reader, especially of Stephen King (a former patient). Most of all he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Denise. At the closing of his life, they had visited all 7 of the major continents, sometimes lecturing during many of their trips to other medical professionals throughout the world. Life was truly an adventure.

Don was a romantic at heart, loving his wife at every step through their journey, celebrating each evening with a toast to their marriage. He was never shy about showering Denise with moments of affection, from surprise dinners in a tux, to trails of rose petals leading to a dinner on a balcony, to her much-beloved tenor concerts (despite him not being a fan). Beginning from their very first date, far before relocating to Texas, a gift of yellow roses was always presented on special occasions. Their marriage has been a beautiful model with no regrets, and Don adored his wife dearly.

Don will be greatly missed by all those he loved and whose lives he touched throughout his lifetime. Family members state that even his Dad Jokes will be sorely missed, though he appears to have successfully passed that torch onto his sons and son-in-law.
