Hannah Cluiss Obituary

It is with immeasurable sadness and resigned relief that we inform you Hannah Louise Hovda Cluiss, 67, of Conroe, Texas, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Good Friday, March 29, 2024. She passed away from complications due to frontotemporal dementia. Hannah's unwavering trust in God's plan guided her, even in illness, and she lived her life in accordance with the teachings of Jesus Christ, showing kindness, compassion, and generosity to all who knew her. In her last days, Hannah was surrounded by love, laughter, and solace.

Hannah was born October 6, 1956, to Hjalmer "Buddy" and Gretchen Hovda of Mercedes, Texas. She attended both Mercedes and Weslaco High Schools, where she enjoyed cheerleading, twirling, debating, playing flute, being active in 4-H Club, participating in science fair, attending Texas Girls' State, and, most importantly, playing tennis - her true passion. In 1978, Hannah graduated from Texas A&I (now Texas A&M - Kingsville) with a degree in Secondary Education in Mathematics. At Texas A&I, she joined Alpha Delta Pi Sorority, contributed to the field of child psychology research, continued to play tennis, and met a neighbor, who became the love of her life - her husband, Craig Cluiss. They married on June 10, 1978.

Hannah and Craig spent their married years in Kingsville, Texas; Harlingen, Texas; The Woodlands, Texas; Elk City, Okla.; and finally, Conroe, Texas. Craig's employment opportunities moved them from place to place, as they raised two girls, Signe and Lieschen. Every place they went, Hannah made fast friends and swiftly became involved in each community. Throughout the years, Hannah played in competitive tennis leagues, taught high school mathematics, directed pre-school, coached tennis and academics, participated in National Charity League, served on the Board of Directors of Concordia Lutheran High School, volunteered with Cypress-Woodlands Junior Forum, and remained active with her confessional Lutheran church, St. Mark Lutheran of Conroe.

In every facet of her life, Hannah wholeheartedly immersed herself in her pursuits. Hannah was a friend to everyone she met. Whether teaching, serving others, or just spending time with friends and family, Hannah's presence made a joyful, magnificent impact.

Hannah was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, David Hovda; and her son, Nathan Cluiss. Hannah is survived by her loving husband, Craig Cluiss; her daughters, Signe Cluiss (Dane Bostick) and Lieschen Cluiss; her two grandchildren; her siblings, Allen (Debby) Hovda, Gretchen Hovda, Hans (Connie) Hovda; her sister-in-law, Lola Jean Hovda; her lifelong friend, Amy Wallingford; her caring in-laws; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts; and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that gifts be made to The Association for Frontotemporal Dementia (theaftd.org), Concordia Lutheran High School, or St. Mark Lutheran Church of Conroe, Texas.
