Johnnie Fay Walding Waites

Johnnie Fay Walding Waites, 93, of Montgomery passed away peacefully on October 3rd., at home surrounded by her family. Johnnie was proceeded in death by Father Jessie James Walding, mother Cordie Izora Patterson Walding, sister Juanita Walding Collins husband Tom L. Collins and daughter in law Suzanne Waites.
She is survived by her sons Robert Waites, Kenneth Waites, daughter in law Karen Waites, granddaughter Heather Miller husband Grant Miller, grandson Kendall Waites and fiancé Wendy Stewart, niece Nita Collins Bailey and husband Jay, nephews James Collin wife Sara, Thomas Collins and wife Sonja, Patrick Collins, and husband Richard Spethman Jr., as well as many great nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Johnnie was a doting Mother, Mother-in-Law, Aunt, Grandmother, Great Aunt.
Johnnie Fay Walding was born in Pelly, Texas on May 20th, 1928 to Jessie James Walding and Cordie Izora Patterson Walding.
She grew up and attended high school in Kilgore, Texas where after high school she left for college graduating from the University of Houston in 1949 with a B.S. in Education. She then married D.D. "Jack" Waites on September 10th of 1949. Together they had two sons Robert and Kenneth. Jack's work required them to relocate often. They lived in Shreveport, Houston, El Campo, and Victoria acquiring many new friends as they went. After her sons began school, she started substitute teaching.
In 1979 she and her husband Jack made one final move and retired to build a home in Montgomery, Texas. Her and Jack spent time working on their house, fishing, traveling, bowling, and entertaining on the weekends. Family was very important to Johnnie, she always made you feel welcome. Her sparkly eyes, warm smile, sense of humor and laugh would instantly brighten a room. Over the years she adopted many sons and daughters who later had children and grandchildren of their own whom affectionately called her mama and grandma Johnnie, making them feel as though they were hers.
Retirement wasn't meant for Johnnie she needed to get up and go. Johnnie began volunteering with her sister Juanita in 1982 at the Conroe Regional Medical Hospital and continue for 36 years until 2018. She was also an active member of the Mount Pleasant Cemetery Association since childhood helping with the process of resurrection the cemetery association. Johnnie retired as Secretary/Treasurer in 2011. She remained active in the association until her death.
