Karen Proctor Obituary

Karen Marie Proctor, 82, passed away peacefully in Conroe, Texas on November 25th, 2025. She was born on January 2, 1943, in Algona, Iowa to her parents Clifford and Alvira Haase. Karen was a very loving and caring person who became a Nurse after graduating from the Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines, Iowa on September 7, 1964. While living in Des Moines, Karen met her beloved future Husband, Charles, who she married on December 22, 1967. Charles became a member of the U.S. Army which led their family to live in many places throughout the years during his service. The family was assigned to Fort Walters, Texas from August 1971 - August 1973. While there, Karen was a valuable volunteer for the Army Community Service and served as the Chairman of the Child Care Committee. The family was assigned to Fort Reilly, Kansas from 1979-1984. While there, Karen returned to college and completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing on May 13, 1984, from the Washburn University of Topeka in Topeka, Kansas. She also earned her Pilot's license and enjoyed flying with her Husband. The family was assigned to Finthen Army Airfield in West Germany from 1984-1987. While living in Mainz-Finthen, Karen volunteered as the School Nurse for the Mainz Elementary School for School Year 1984-85. She was very active as a volunteer instructor for Army Medical Personnel during the three years of the tour. Karen was active in base family activities, including playing for the Mainz Women's Softball League. Karen received Certificates of Appreciation for her participation with the base Chapel, to include being a member of the Church Choir and acting as Chapel Hostess. Charles retired from the Army in 1990, and the family moved to Conroe, Texas. Karen worked in the Surgical Departments of Doctor's Hospital and Conroe Regional Medical Center until her retirement in 2007. Karen was an active member of the Tree of Life Lutheran Church in Conroe and greatly enjoyed serving the church as a member of the Church Choir, playing Hand Bells, and participating in many of the Church activities, especially the Creative Hands Group.
