Margaret "Peggy" Johnston Apple, 86, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2025, in Coppell, Texas. Peggy was born February 11, 1939, in Houston, Texas to Harris and Lois Parker Johnston.
Peggy grew up in Houston, Texas (West University Place) where she was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Peggy graduated from Lamar High School. She then attended Texas Tech University, where she was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority. After graduating from Texas Tech University with an education degree, she began her long career as an elementary school teacher in Houston, Texas. She also supported Texas educators through the Association of Texas Professional Educators, where she served as the state president.
Peggy finally retired from teaching after more than 35 years, took up golf, and moved north of Houston to what was then a fairly new golf development known as the Bentwater Yacht and County Club near Montgomery, Texas. While living at Bentwater, she not only enjoyed playing golf and meeting many new friends who quickly became like family to her, but she also served in her church, St. James the Apostle Episcopal Church in Conroe, Texas, the local P.E.O., the Rotary Club of Lake Conroe, and the Salvation Army. Peggy was a true servant with boundless energy. She never met a stranger and always had a smile that would brighten your day.
Peggy was a devoted mother to her son, David and daughter-in-law, Kendra. But her greatest joy was being "Gramma" to her three precious grandchildren, Michael, Aubrie and Mitchell, whom she adored. Each summer, Peggy would invite each grandchild down to her house along with a friend and would spoil them with fishing, lake activities, golf and her famous barbeque baby back ribs.
Like her mother, Peggy also loved sports and supporting her local professional teams. She was a Houston Rockets season ticket holder for many years, and she loved the Houston Oilers and, later, Houston Texans. She also followed her Texas Tech Red Raiders. After she moved to Bentwater, she became a frequent attendee of the local Montgomery High School football games.
Peggy is preceded in death by her parents, Harris and Lois Parker Johnston of Houston, Texas, and her brother, Harris "Sonny" Johnston of Sugar Land, Texas. She leaves behind her son, David Apple, and his wife, Kendra (Coppell); her grandson, Michael, and his wife, Brooke (Coppell), and their three children, Carson, Landry and Walker; her granddaughter, Aubrie, and her husband, Matt (Round Rock), and their two children, Shane and Nora; her grandson, Mitchell (Dallas); and a host of loving, extended family and dear friends.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Peggy's life will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 2 PM at St. James the Apostle Episcopal Church, 1803 Highland Hollow Drive, Conroe, Texas 77304. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Peggy's honor may be made to
