Mary Danley Obituary

On December 12, 2021, Heaven received one of its petite Texas angels when Mary Jo Zimmer Danley unexpectedly went home to be with her Lord. Born in Brownsville, Texas on August 28, 1937, Mary was the loving daughter of Philip Zimmer, Sr. and Leila Thurmond Zimmer and sister to Philip "Butch" Zimmer, Jr. and sister-in-law Frances Zimmer.

Mary met the love of her life, Cecil "Larry" Danley, on a double date in Harlingen, Texas. They married in August of 1956 and always remained steadfast in their devotion to each other. Mary is survived by her three adoring children: Larry Wayne Danley and wife Connie, Melissa Danley Coward and fiancé Mike Cantlon, and David Danley and wife Sharon.

Mary cherished their many grandchildren: Larry William Danley and wife Taylor, Steven Coward and wife Kelley, Danny Isbell, Monica Milford, Cameron Danley, Courtney Danley, Austin Danley, and Alexis Coward along with their seven great grandchildren, niece Linda Danley Pryor and husband George, nephews Mike Zimmer and wife Molly, and Andy Zimmer and wife Morgan.

Although preceded in death by both her parents and in-laws, Cecil and Willie Danley and brothers-in-law Terry Danley and Jerry Danley, Mary always remained close with all her extended family in addition to her many beloved friends.

Mary never met a stranger and cherished her lifelong friendship with Kay Waters and her husband James with whom she'd been friends since elementary school in addition to the many friendships of all her church friends that she lunched with regularly for years.

Mary was an active member of Conroe Church of Christ and secretary at Spring Woodlands Church of Christ for many years before recently moving to Oakwood, Texas and joining Grace Street Church of Christ in Crockett, Texas.

As a devout lifelong Christian, Mary's faith and family were always foremost in her life. She took great pleasure in her church activities but also in keeping up with everyone in her family. She was amazingly adept at using social media through Facebook to stay current with her friends and family. But her true talent was in "cyber stalking" her loved ones through the social media app Life360 which eventually became a long-term running joke with her closest loved ones. Hardly a day passed when Mary didn't know the exact whereabouts of her immediate family and she loved nothing more than a playful interrogation of her children and their social logistics which gave everyone a good laugh.

Mary was not only computer savvy and an accomplished draftsman, but no matter what she was doing she always had a cheery disposition and terrific sense of humor and style which showed in every aspect of her life. Mary's fabulous sense of style was not only current with the latest trends, but she loved to wear the pretty and often whimsical hats her daughter frequently gave her; they were a true testament to her fashionista ways. Mary was often asked, "Oh I love that (insert hat, shoes, bracelet, blouse here). Wherever did you get that?" And, she always had a wonderful story to go with the answer.

Mary's kind and generous nature were evident to everyone but also appreciated by her special fur babies especially Daisy and most recently Noah which she regularly cooked for throughout the years and loved to spoil. Wherever Mary was, you could bet there was a happy, spoiled little dog close by.

Mary will be dearly missed by all who loved her. She made everyone feel happy and special with her beautiful smile and appreciation for life. Mary's spirit will live on forever in all of us that had the pleasure of knowing her.

Service will be held on Monday, December 27, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Conroe Church of Christ with Tim Halstead officiating.

I remember so well having a friend like Mary made my life so much better. I met her when we walked home from school together. She shared her home, time, and family with me often. We laughed together every time we got together. She was a treasured friend for her happy disposition and wit. I miss her and am sorry that we did not get to spend time together when we were ollder.
