Graveside services for longtime resident of Conroe, Ophelia Parker Buckalew, will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in Conroe Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Ray Hyden officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M at Conroe Funeral Directors. Mrs. Buckalew was born on August 30, 1918 in Vilonia, Arkansas to Coy H. Parker and Josephine (Westmoreland) Parker. She passed away peacefully in Conroe at the age of 97.
Ophelia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, O.M. "Buck" Buckalew; her grandchildren, Cathy L. Page and James "Bubba" Grogan; and her step daughter, Betty Jeffers. She is survived by her loving family: Daughters, Barbara Lasher and Carole Gardner and husband, Gary; step-daughter, Clarene Martinez; grandson, Jerry Walker; great grandchildren, Michael Healy, Melissa Healy, Taylor Grogan and Gage Grogan. Numerous great-great grandchildren and other dear relatives and also survive.
She and her husband Buck moved to Conroe in 1938. Over the years they successfully ran three businesses and raised their happy family. Ophelia was always a hard worker and thrived on staying busy. Her giving and considerate nature was apparent all through her life, as she was always doing and thinking of others before herself. Her true love were her grandchildren, who affectionately called her Memaw. Our sweet mother, Memaw and friend is dearly loved and will be greatly missed in our lives.
