Robert Henry McClelland passed away peacefully at home surrounded by love on Sunday, January 21, 2024 in Montgomery, Texas. Robert "Bob" was born on July 27, 1932 in Henderson, Texas to Teresa Marie Gehbauer and James Pat McClelland, Sr. He grew up in Henderson with his beloved brothers, George Dewey McClelland and James Pat McClelland, Jr., MD.
Bob graduated from Henderson High School in 1950, where he received the American Legion Certificate of Award. He then went on to Kilgore College, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1952, and completed his education at Texas A&M where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in 1955. He was a named a member of Tau Beta Pi while at A&M in 1955.
After college, Bob began his career as a geologist and worked for Humble Oil, Exxon, and finally Murphy Baxter/Wing Corporation where he served as Vice President of Exploration. He retired in 1998. Many know of his love of fishing, which took him all over the world, including Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Louisiana, Alaska, and New Mexico. And of course, the many lakes in Texas he fished on a regular basis. He was also an avid hunter, and played golf. Aside from these hobbies, he was also known for his humor, wit, loyalty, and wonderful stories. But most of all, he will be remembered as a devoted husband and loving father. He was simply the best.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Pat and Marie McClelland; his brothers, George and Pat; as well as his first wife of 36 years, Faye Falsone McClelland; and his later wife of 20 years, Shirley Johnson McClelland.
He is survived by his daughters, Cathleen McClelland Romans (husband Trevor) and Robin McClelland Hawn (husband Doug); as well as his grandchildren, Grant Hawn (wife Savannah) and Elise Hawn.
He is also survived by Shirley's sons, Tony Noah, Steve Noah, Tas Moak (wife Allison); as well as grandchildren, Wendy Noah, Lacy Noah, Derek Noah (wife Ashlee), Abigail Noah, Bailey Noah, Ben Moak, Peyton Moak and Will Moak. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren, Mason Noah, Emerson Noah, NaZaria Noah, Brielle Noah, Callum Noah, and Brinley Noah.
Funeral services will be held for Bob on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., at Montgomery United Methodist Church with Pastor Nancy Kellond officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m., until service time at the church. The burial will be at Garden Park Cemetery in Conroe, Texas on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 9:30 a.m.
