Rodney Atkinson Obituary

12/03/1964 - 01/28/2023

On Saturday January 28, 2023 Rodney Dale Atkinson 58, entered into the Kingdom of Heaven. Rodney was born on December 3, 1964 in Conroe, Texas to R B and Willie Mae (Smith) Atkinson, who both preceded him in death.

Rodney grew up and lived his entire life in the Cut and Shoot/Conroe. As a young boy Rodney was given the nickname Shorty by his daddy and to this day most believe that's his true first name. Shorty graduated from Conroe High School in 1984. After graduating he went on to work with his daddy R B and his brothers in the family trucking/hauling industry. As the years passed, Shorty went on to own his own companies ranging from driving semis, wood grinding and lastly settling into heavy truck diesel repair. There Rodney was able to share his knowledge of his trade with his son's, grandchildren, nephews, cousins, and anyone else who spent time at his shop. Rodney loved the Lord with all his heart and never met a stranger. If he was your friend , you knew it. When Shorty wasn't at the shop you would find him at church or spending as much time as he could with the grandbabies taking walks or going on bike rides.

Rodney leaves behind his wife Nikki Atkinson. His children Justin Atkinson and wife Kelli, Darrell Atkinson and wife Kayci, Dillon Atkinson and wife Halie, Lynnzie Segrest and husband Lance, Kyle Dunford, Tristan Winslet and husband Marcus, Kody Burson and Fiance Isaac Sanchez, Bonus son Phillip Armstrong. Grandchildren Aiden Atkinson, Mickenley Morris- Atkinson, Asher Segrest, Finnley Atkinson, Rylie Mae Atkinson, Adalee Segrest, Reagen Atkinson, Eli Sanchez and Brendan, Brielle, Brea, Bridgette, and Bo Winslet. His former wife and mother of his children Stacey Vyoral. Surviving siblings Peggy Ward, Richard Atkinson and wife Emileen, Raymond Atkinson and wife Valerie, Elaine Franklin, Patricia Daniels, Ronald Atkinson and wife Cathy. Also survived by Ashley Genovese and husband Joseph, Chelsea Wallace and husband Brian. Rodney leaves many many aunt's, uncle's, niece's, nephew's, cousins and friends who were also like family.

Rodney is preceded in death by both parents, both sets of grandparents, many aunt's, uncle's and cousins but most importantly siblings Paula Atkinson, Robert Atkinson, Pamela Capps and her husband Homer, brother in law Cece Ward, nephews Warren Ward, Jeremy Atkinson, and niece Grace Lortcher.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, March 4, 2023 @Noon at The Mercy Seat Worship Center with Pastor Tommy Largent officiating. Fellowship dinner to follow celebration. Conroe Funeral Directors is assisting the family.

Uncle shorty was the best person I had ever met he was just full of joy no hatred in his heart, Although it was hard we he had passed the thing that got me through it was the memories I had of him growing up watching him just helping everyone in need and just always having a smile on his face and so much more those are the memories I will always hold.

I had no idea that Rodney had passed... my heart felt sympathy for the entire family and shop. Fantastic man and a someone you could definitely count on if you were in a bind and needed to get in for work. Much more than that, he was a man of integrity...what a loss..

Rodney was a genuine man. A man of all men and hand crafted by his creator he worshipped. He cared about his children deeply and had a gentle and kind spirit. His knowledge and teaching of diesel mechanics to not only his son's, but other truck drivers was exceptional. I was one of those he taught. Rodney left some hard shoes to fill, however, I know his son's will carry on as they are good men too and groomed from the best. Godspeed Rodney.
